Most people will go back on Tuesday with Monday being a Bank Holiday....

How come the holidays were the two weeks before easter, rather than the two weeks AROUND easter, like usual...

Probably has to do with Easter being late this year. Date is calculated as the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring Equinox. That gives a date between about 22 March & 20 April. So this year it's fairly late.
