PC version
I have done some reading on the power attacks associated with advancing levels.
This part I know.
A Novice does a basic power attack with a damage bonus in all directions
An Apprentice gains damage bonuses with a Mastery Standing Power Attack
A Journeyman gains the Mastery Left and Right Power Attacks, which have a chance to disarm
An Expert gains a Mastery Backwards Power Attack, which has a chance of a knockdown
A Master gains a Mastery Forward Power Attack, with a chance to paralyz
My question is this? Do these attacks happen automatically or do you have to have some key combination to do them. I have not seen myself do them and I am an apprentice in blade. I have not seen any procudures in any reading that I have done. How does it work?

Well it actually sais it in the description of the power attacks.
An Apprentice gains damage bonuses with a Mastery Standing Power Attack
-Means you get a damage bonus if you stand still and do a power attack.
A Journeyman gains the Mastery Left and Right Power Attacks, which have a chance to disarm
-Means that if you make a power attack while either moving left or right then you will have a chance of disarming the opponent.
An Expert gains a Mastery Backwards Power Attack, which has a chance of a knockdown
-Means that if you make a powerattack while moving backwards you have a chance of knocking down the opponent.
A Master gains a Mastery Forward Power Attack, with a chance to paralyz
-Means that if you make a power attack while moving forward you have a chance of paralyzing the opponent.
Because, you have several power attacks motions when you start. You can see that your attack is different if you move left and do a power attacks compared to if you moved forward. The motion of the sword.
In the beginning they will all do the same, give some extra damage, but as you get better in the skill and unlock those perks, those different motions will get a bonus as described above.

I've only gotten up to expert swordsmanship so far. Honestly I find the power attacks pretty wasteful. Whenever I use them (haveing to move back or side to side) I end up missing the target and wasting a lot of stanima. This is probably because I prefer short swords or other fast 1hs, and moveing that little bit messes up the range. The master power attacks sounds great though and moveing forward means it may actually hit something =p

A normal power attack is done just by holding down the attack button. You wind up for a half second or so and hit harder. As Foss mentioned at each level above 25 you can then begin getting special power attacks. You do these by holding down attack (like normal power attack) while moveing in a certain direction.

Thanks, Suspect.
Heh - I only figured out yesterday that if you hold down right and left mouse buttons together you have an automatic Block between strikes...
Just goes to show how dumb I am...
