18 FPS isn't that great is it ...

Post by William Bobo »

I thought I had a good computer and now while running about outside I see 18 FPS.

I have a nVidia 5950 Ultra, cost me 500 bucks 18 months ago or so and I thought it was better than loving Lisa, but that's a different issue.
I have a gig of RAM and an AMD 3400+, running XP.

Do I really need to go an blow a whole bunch of dollars on a new video card or worse, a new computer?
I kind of asked this question before and (thanks) I got a lot of answers that where techy but too complicated for my meagre brain.

Can I tweak something to get a better performance? Do I just replace the video card?

The game is fantastic, but my computer doesn't seem to be.

You might try checking out other threads in Oblivion's database relating to graphics cards, or just page through it. But consider turning off distant land, and see if that helps. I know, you shouldn't have to do that, still...
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

With a system like that you should be able to run Oblivion adequately :)

Try checking the link I provided to a tweak guide in the Yellow Pages thread. How much video memory have you got?

And have you done the basics like defrag/update drivers etc?

Much obliged ... as always the RPG players, along with VB developers, are the best! I will try both options.
