Any good longswords or bastard swords?

Post by Kimmuriel »

I am just at the entrance to the cave place after the cold marshes(killed the really un-dragon like white dragon)and realized all that I have for my fighters is one using a longsword +2 with +1 cold damage( too bad im in Icewind Dale...)and then the Wight's blade in his off hand, 1d8+1 with 66% chance bane on person I'm attacking.
The other uses another longsword +2 in his off-hand & the bastard's son sowrd in his main hand, 1d10+2
Both use boring beetle full plate and one has a secondary weapon as the winged blight greatsword with 2d6+1 and +3 attack on humans and 2d6+3 on humans. I think that this stuff is crap and really gotta get better stuff. I don't even have a paladin so I could use Cera Cumat er w/e the holy avenger is called, when I get it. My friend found a bastard sword with lots of damage on it, something like 5d10 or around that and he isn't that far ahead of me so I wonder if there are any better weapons I could find very soon or near where I am.

You're not that far away from the underdark area, and there are +3 weapons for sale there. The merchant also has a few special weapons as well. There aren't really any super weapons in the first part of this game (before HOF), unless you cheat.

And the items become MUCH better.

A goold long sword type weapon is the Scimitar of the SSouless +5.

I love it.

You only get it in the late game though.

Bastard Swords worth while

I just started a second run of IWD2 and Fang was for sale in Targos (from Deirdre) for about 12,700 gold.
This uniquely made Bastard Sword is imbued with an ever present supply of acidic venom. While not poisonous, the venom will burn upon contact if it contacts directly with flesh. In addition, the power of the blade abjures its user against corrosive damage.

STATISTICS:

Damage: 1d10
Damage Type: Slashing
Enchantment: +5
Special:
Sure Striking: Weapon is treated as having a +5 enchantment for the purpose of hitting creatures that require magical weapons to hit
Corrosion: +5d6 acid damage
Resistance: 15/- Acid Resistance
Weight: 10 lb.
Feat Requirement: Exotic Weapon, Bastard Sword
Type: One-handed
That's a pretty darn good weapon!

You need Weimer's Ease-of-Use mod to get it. The mod component beefed up a lot of bastard swords in the game, making them overpowered.
Another bastard sword in the ice temple grants Executioner's Eyes while equipped (use it as an off-hand weapon!)
The Bastard Sword of Heroism is the one that deals 4D10 damage. If you DON'T have this mod component installed, this sword is the best (bastard sword) in the game - in terms of dealing out damage.
Cera Sumat (Holy Avenger) and it's HoF counterpart are the best damage dealing longswords, with Scimitar of Defense +5 being the best scimitar.

But for damage, 2-handed weapons are the best.

I completed the game with this component installed, and my main tank needed no other weapon, other than Fang!
(I remember it well, because it was the only time I've ever added the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat)
