For the Empire!
I play Imperial mostly because it brings to mind the authority that stems from an empire. I also like the idea of being a member of some ingenious race that is able to exert its power not through numbers, but rather the traits or inherent features of its kind. The Imperials in Morrowind are sort of the not-so-good... good guy. They're certainly not evil, but they are a presence which has arrived through some force, and I find that very appealing.

And it was in the twilight of their lives that they realized... their shoelaces were untied...
i've tried as a dunmer and abandoned it and now i'm playing as an altmer and i love it - i have over 700 magicka now (after items, 500 before items) - with the atronach sign and its ideal for a sorceress. i tried a sorceress type character with a dunmer and it was useless as you run out of magicka far too quickly to make it even remotely worth it. i do everything by magic with my altmer and never use weapons, lockpicks or anything else other than potions (but even then i make them all myself with alchemy). i dunno, it just seems to be a lot more enjoyable roleplaying as a sorceress with an altmer than it was with a dunmer.

Ahhh, cummon, ya don't need to be Altmer to get 700 magicka. I mean, after items (or rather, item), I have 875, and without i'm about 600. And Magick isn't even on the list of "go for its" on Argonians. Then again, what level are you at? I'm at 72, and I have about 6 mil worth of gear on my person, so that might explain things
Get up, stand up. Come on, throw your hands up.

i'm at level 30 and i have customised my character so she levels up very slowly - i've completed most side quests and most of the main quest i wasn't saying you need a altmer to have high magicka - what i was saying is for me, the altmer is providing the best role-playing experience for the customised character that i wanted to play. since i am not into power gaming this is the most important aspect of an rpg for me. i have not tried races other than dunmer and altmer, so the argonian may be good too, i don't know. i just know that i really like the altmer.
edit: i also only have a couple of hundred thousand in gold because i can't be bothered selling or even picking most stuff up anymore. the stuff i like i just save at my stronghold for a rainy day lol. out of interest, how do you get 600 magicka without cheating when the max intelligence is 100? my intelligence is maxed out, and i get loads of magicka bonuses from being altmer and atronach - i don't use cheats so there is no way my magicka would increase anymore without items.

Khajiit
I personally prefer the Khajiit. They have relativley good start up skills and make wonderful thieves when paired with the moonshadow birthsign also the skills eye of fear and eye of night are great when you're first starting to make stronger enemies run while to run behind beating them senseless also acrobactics is very good along with athletics probably my favorite character also because they are cats....i like cats.
