Spam removed. As I've mentioned before, and as anybody can read at the top of this thread,
But short of buying a house, is there any place to drop your goodies in Oblivion? What about chests in caves? Anybody?
That's what this thread is about. If you want to ask your own question, don't kidnap somebody else's thread, or you could end up temporarily losing your posting privileges.

Appreciated.
Perhaps dropping them just on the other side of an Oblivion gate works? That's just wilderness and I doubt even the npc hunters go in there.
I've left armor an weapons lying on the group for up to 3 days and they never moved. I guess this cell never refreshed or something, or is there a curtain amount of time before it refreshes? Well anyway I'm just saying my armor and weapons didn't go away after 3 days.
Apparently it takes more than 3 days.

How awful!
I wish I had read this thread earlier. I was so happy with the extremely powerful and ultra expensive cattle prod I found near the remains of a goblin shaman. I decided to store it safely somewhere. What safer place than a chest in the Skingrad fighters guild clubhouse, right? I am a member so it is perfectly acceptable if I use a guild chest for storage. Wrong. It has now been transformed into a folded cloth and a tan plate or some other utterly useless items. :speech:
I have now dropped all other quests and put 'buy a house' on top of my things-to-do list.

If you don't have the money, you can always use the guild chests mod that Fable put up here. It's quite useful. I have houses everywhere except Chorrol and I still use them.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.
Temper, temper!
Besides at the very beginning I needed money for other things you know so if someone is just starting it can be very annoying because you use your money for other things. Which where the mod for the guild storage comes in. Now I don't know what to do with the money I have, but in the beginnig...

Hmmm.. I have my reservations regarding mods. I have not enabled any mods yet, but if I do I will only use mods to make the game more realistic and to improve the balance, in stead of making it easier for me. That feels to much like cheating. A game like Oblivion can quickly become unchallenging, so I would rather use mods to make it more challenging.

I don't have that much "Phat lewt" yet, but I started storing my stuff in Glarthir's house, seeing as he doesn't seem to have much use for it anymore.
Even though it's owned, none of the other NPC's make it past his front door, and the guards dont seem mind. (I guess since I have his house key, *Shrug*)
Anyone else doing this/if so, anyone else had issues doing this? So far, I haven't noticed anything dissappear/get overwritten etc.

Teh 'Banshee Pwnzes.
SPOILER: when you get the black horse Shadowmare, you can store items in it and it will never go away. The horse can't die, so try to kill it and when it's unconsious put your items in it. To get things out just kill it again and take your items. Remember, the items will stay in the horse where ever it goes. END SPOILER

I dunno guys I've never had this problem
I mean granted I never need to drop items (I built my alchemy up to master basically on restore health and feather potions ) but I few times I ran out of potions right on the way to a shop so I had to drop them off, like for instance directly where fast travel drops you off at the east gate in Skingrad.
I dropped something like a pair of orcish greaves and an elven cuirass (and some bear pelts too) and forget about them.
Lo and behold a considerable amount of time later (I was lvl 15 or so when I dropped them and level 24 when I picked them back up) they were still there.
Also I dropped a few pots and jugs or something in the market district right after getting out of the sewers and they're still there.

Storage chests
Friends, I do believe I have an solution for the homeless adventurer who is not happy with littering the streets: guild storage chests. I have used one in the mages guild in Chorrol. There is a chest named "storage chest". I used it at level 2 or so to store some ingredients. And at level 10 and after many cell resets the ingredients are still there. I assume those storage chests were specifically designed for storage of the player's things. I also assume you have to be a member of the guild to use them.

Are you sure you're not running a mod? Because the only storage chests I've seen in a guild were attached to one of two mods: GuildStorage, and GuildItemOwnership (which incorporates GuildStorage). These place a chest marked "Guild Storage" in each guild, for your use, with a few very simple, extremely inexpensive (so you won't resell them) items inside. The chests never respawn.
I've been using a variety of house mods, lately, but I've found nothing that fully meets my needs. Most are still very harshly lit and overly large. Some provide cheats. My favorites to date are Mountain Tower (alchemy sorter, lots of empty bookshelves, but overly simplistic design), Arcane Sanctuary (sorts ingredients and puts them away even from a distance, teleportal pendant, very imaginative design, not enough storage space, overly dark), and Ayelid Sanctum (coldly lit and overly large, but has tons of labeled containers for everything, and a spell for travel).
I guess I'm still hoping for the warm, cozy interiors of Abu's Retreat or Kahleigh's retreat, with tons of labeled space and plenty of imaginative touches. But it's still early in the modding day.

I'm positive that all containers with an uncommon name whoever is their owner are safe places.
You could also store your items in every other common container if you just remember to move them at least once a week.
P.S. For containers with uncommon names i mean every "NPC's chest" "NPC's desk\drawer" other unique container such as Dwells, Gauged Rocks, etc...
If you're interested i could prepare a list of some uncommon containers, just let me know!

Well... errr.. actually I am running a mod, now that you mention it. I kind of forgot. Not that I am running a mod, but I forgot that it includes storage chests. The mod is called 'Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul' and it is meant to make the game a bit more realistic. Not all enemies are leveled, for example. It is not meant to make the game easier though. That is why I decided to ignore the guild storage chests, because I thought they were a cheat. But I must have forgotten this as I started playing.
So please ignore what I wrote above, I'm sorry for the false alarm.

Well, I can authoritatively say that, in an unmodded game, no-place that you don't actually own is safe. I've put stuff in unowned chests and come back later to find them gone. I've put stuff in caches in the wilderness to find them gone. The only place they are safe is in a place you own. You might dump them in a chest in a cave and come back 2, 5, 10, or 30 days later and still find them there. Or not. This is not Morrowind, where you can cache your stuff in the town square and it will always be there when you return. In Oblivion, stuff goes missing unless you place it in someplace you own, and just because it's still there a week later is no guarantee it won't be gone the next day.

He incorporates the GuildStorage mod I mentioned, above. Thought so, on account of the storage chests. Personally, I don't regard them as a cheat; after all, if everybody else's goods in your guild stay around permanantly, why shouldn't yours? But each to their own.

I'm writing down a list of safe places you don't own. It will take some time cause actually i'm using my houses, the sancuary of the dark brotherhood in leyawin (more exactly, the private chests of the members), the guild of warriors and mages as i'm master and arch-mage, ... so i don't recall all the places i used earlier.
I'll keep this post update little by little that i remember the location of the containers.
-Imperial City: (i'm positive i used to put my items in)
-- Talos Plaza, Ontus Vanin's house, private rooms, Ontus Vanin's chest
-- Arcane University, Arch-Mage private room, Wizard's desk (?not sure in english version it is called "desk")
