hi, i was playing around with some nether spells, and it doesnt seem that they work, or i wasnt using them properly.
suffocating cloud - i got poisonous cloud to work in combat, but this spell when i cast it, nothing happens. the only thing i can think of is that it takes a few seconds to cast, and i was interrupted, since i was in close combat.
but isnt that where you want to use the spell? why would you want to cast it out of combat? monsters dont run into clouds as far as i can tell, so it wounldt be much use to cast it when you see the monsters from a range.
i tried four times to cast the spell, then gave up.
possession - i tried this spell too four times, i suppose the ninja's or deathwidow spiders i was fighting could have resisted it, so in fargrove i cast it on a low level thief twice, and no effect. does this spell work?
hate - i also tested this skill on a group of low level giant spiders, a red effect appeared over one spider and thats it. nothing attacked the spider, nothing else happened. i cast it again on some rats, same thing. no effect.
it could be i only have lvl 8 nether, but at this point i dont want to waste any more ingredients till i know these spells work, or how to use them.
do all high lvl nether spells work?

Unfortunatly quite few of the magic spells you get in the game don't work...
As for Choking cloud I have heard Iceman say that it doen't work so you shoudln't bother.
Posession doesn't work either, I tried it myself, your character doesn't even make that move he usually does when casting a nether spell.
As for Hate it is probably your Nether level that doesn't let the spell work on full capacity, Hate didn't work until v 1.4 and CE.
Ans you also mentionned that you didn't want to waste any ingredients until you had the information about the not-working-spells, well, once you have a spell just sell it to a magic shop and you will then be able to buy it as much as you want (as long as you've got the gold for it). That's what people do with the EXTREMLY powerful spell "Cataclysm" wich is obtained in the Tomb Of Souls after Succesfully bargianing/ killing Voraatus and talking to the watcherand chosing "The demons' spell".
