...or is all of this speculation?

Obsidian got the licence, so there will most likely be some games in the Forgotten Realms setting, but if the story has anything to to with BG, nobody knows. At least not I.

On the other hand, Obsidian has made two follow-ups of BioWare products, NWN and KOTOR, so why not BG.

But BG is a well concluded saga. I don`t believe there`s anything more to exploit from the story.

And IF they are making a completely different story, it would be best to set it som different place than Baldur`s Gate.

Anyway, ìt`s only speculation at the moment, in except of this talksman for Obsidian(?) that was provoked by journalists six months ago about future strategy, and responded by dashing out with names like NWN2 and BG3, without furhter explanation.

Well it's money that talks so it's very likely that there's gonna be BG3
The problem is that the people with the most ridiculous ideas are always the people who are most certain of them.

Maybe a BG3, since it is a well concluded story as said above, will actually be either a prequel (starring Gorion) or a story about on of the Bhaal-spawn's scions.

I`m sick of hearing about the money.. Theoretical value of the Baldur`s Gate trademark, does not guarantee an undiscutable success.

I, among thousands other people, never even heard of Baldur`s Gate, and the game actually got bad reviews in my country when it got out. The reviewers didn`t like the quote; "..simple combat system, to which Diablo is way superior" (personally I think they`ve never heard of D&D rules)

But after a while it became a blockbuster.

I decided to try the game anyway after reading player reviews, and I loved it.. I became a FR-maniac.

The BG trademark guarantees a lot of free publishing attention from magazines, and good INITIAL sale, but that`s it. ;) The best game wins in the long run.

Near as I can tell, there is no actual BG3 game in development. Most of this forum is dedicated to rumors and personal opinions concerning what people would like to see in a sequel to BG and BG2. Considering the quantity of opinions, it looks to me that there is a lot of interest in seeing such a game. More basically, I think this translates to a great interest in seeing ANY good, story-driven, immersive, re-playable RPG made in the mold of BG. This speaks well for how entertaining the first BG games were and suggests a strong potential market.
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

IMO, the story will probably be what you do after u become the next lord of murderer.

If u read the other story tales from other Forgotten Realm series, it can be possible that you gonna against the other seven gods/goddesses. :D

And then take over Shadowdale and Watersdeep.

But then, no. Since the bg saga is completed, it may end up with different game that's similar; but wont be named Baldur's Gate.
Got Question from BG series? NO PRoblem, ask BG_DaDDy, YAh.

That would be a good idea if it wouldn't conflict with importing characters that didn't ascend to godhood to stay with their lover. In fact I think it would be a great idea, but that would also leave out all of the NPC's.

I'd also heard that they were making a sequel several years ago, "Black Hound" or something along the lines, and yes, it was scrapped. :(

They should have done Temple of Elemental Evil like BG I & II. I was really disappointed by Temple. I would love for them to do another game and base it in the Dales or around Zhentil Keep but, alas, it seems we will never have another like thse gems...

My Kingdom for BG3

I don't know anything about scraped plans for BG3, but I certainly hope that someday, there will be one. The BG series has undoubtably been one of the most uplifting experiences I have ever had, and I don't want it to ever end.

Maybe Imoen could be the 'baddie', in BG3. I've never beaten ToB with her in my party so I don't know if anything happens to her essence, but maybe she could be corrupted by it or something and use some ritual or powerful magic to restore the Throne of Bhaal itself, in the hopes of regaining godhood.

I would like to create something like that in the NWN toolset, but I'm crap at scripting so any effective attempts have never gone very far.

Alas! Baldur's Gate 3, my kingdom for Baldur's Gate 3.
Tell us a story, Monty! Tell us a story of gold and bears!

I heard they are doing a Prequel to BG I and II.

I heard they (Obsidian Entertainment, I guess) is making BGIII a prequal to the events of BG I and II. I also heard that they are using 3rd Ed rules and using 3D Graphics as well. That's neat and all, but I'd rahter see Obsidian use 2nd Ed rules and the graphics that made BG I and II so popular. If it works, don't fix it. Lets say that Obsidian decides to pick up where Throne of Bhaal left off, what is the next challange for your character? The only thing I could think of (off the top of my head) is tying up the loss ends (Anomen, Aerie, etc..). I know that that Thorne of Bhaal explained there ultiamte destiny; but this is an interactive game. It is best to show and not tell. But that is just me.

Bg Iii

I believe that any D&D based version with the same NPC type interaction on a turn based system would satisfy all of the people longing for a return to Baulders Gate. I knox I have looked into several games and seem to rank the BG series at the top not as much for the story line but in sticking to true a D&D based game with your friends.

I have to say that I agree. My favorite gaming series EVER was the Baldur's Gate series. I'm playing Oblivion right now but to me it's an Action game with RPG elements. There aren't any true RPG games made anymore and it's very very sad. I got so excited about Temple of Elemental Evil and it was fun for all of 2 weeks and then consistently dungeon delving and not being able to take most of the quests because they were evil quests (My character was a Paladin) really took a lot of the fun out of it for me. Plus...the storyline was NO WHERE NEAR as good as the BG series.

I'm dying for a great old-school traditional turn-based D&D 3.5 rules game with today's graphics and i'm just not sure why they're not being made. Every single RPG nowadays is what they call an "Action RPG" and half of the time, you can't tweak your own stats. It's good to know that others feel the same way. If they make a BG III, it would be one of the happiest gaming days i've had in quite awhile.

I agree with this as well. I still play bgi-ii a few times every few months (I still have to play it because there are still no games equal to it's play style). I add on mods to make it a little different and I custom make my own characters for fun.

I played through dark alliance 1/2 and they sucked bad. Just a bunch of hack and slash. Only thing I liked about them was playing the alt chars, drizzt ect...

I don't understand the dumbing down of rpg games... I mean the average gamer is 30ish and can afford all types of games. There is a huge market for it yet no one seems to be going after it (for the most part). I mean who really started the computers to get going, geeks/nerds and people who love rpgs. Yet it is going in the reverse direction that it should be going.

I wish they remade the bg series with the nwn2 engine or something along those lines. I would love to see Irenicus in all his evil 3d glory and the whole game of course =p

And if they did make bgiii (lets hope), they would make it like bgi/ii in the sense that you'd be some "random " guy. Not Gorion or anyone like that.

Personally I would hate it if B3 came out in 3d. If you want to know why there are so many action-rpgs and so few real rpgs its because of this obsession with 3d graphics. I didn't enjoy the graphics in nwn at all. I thought dungeon seige was horrible. In fact I had a perfect track record for finishing games until I got introduced to the 3d rpg thing. As long as gamers keep demanding more advanced but IMO less asthetically pleasing graphics, they are going to leave game designers wide open to some corporate exec saying "yeah but wouldn't be really cool if you could shoot the dragon yourself, I mean isn't that whay these graphics are for?"
When in doubt...kick it

I agree. I prefer the 'painted' and 2d style of the bgii graphics. I hated NWN after playing it for about 30 minutes and will probably not play it again. I would rather pay $50 for another 'inferior graphic' bgii style game than I would
pay $10 for a 'state of the art' NWN 3d style game.

As a side note, an appearance of Jon Irenicus as a lich would be sweet...

Being that it is 3d isn't really the true problem anyways(it costs a lot more then 2d). NWN was ok and their expansions got better and better so there is still hope for NWN2. I mean it's like when we wanted more and more powerful processors. Today it isn't really about the power, it is how it is used now.
