Dual classing question
When you dual class from a cleric to a fighter, do you still have to only use blunt weapons? what about fighter to cleric?

More questions
Its been a long time since I looked at 2nd edition rules, and I don't know whats been changed from the core rules in BGII. Could someone give me a quick overview of dual-classing, since I can't find it in the manual somehow. For example:
Can any class dual-class, especially paladins and monks?
What happens to your original class abilities when you dual class?
Thanks

Q1 - no - according to the rules, some classes can, and some can't. The easiest way to check is to begin creating a half-elf and seeing all the valid multi-class options - those are valid dual class combinations as well.
Q2 - you gain experience in class 1 until you decide to dual. The moment you dual, you temporarily lose all class 1 skills and abilities (including weapon prof's, spell casting ability, etc) and begin gaining experience in class 2. When you have one more level in class 2 over class one (say you're a level 9 fighter, you'd need to reach level 10 in the second class...), you're class 1 skills and abilities are reactivated. You don't gain any *new* class 1 experience or skills, and still gain only in class 2, but can use your full range of skills (like a thief's traps, a fighter's thaco, or a mage's spellcasting).
Hope that helps!

it has been a very very long time since i've been to these boards. so, hello once again.
from fighter to cleric - you can take proficiencies in non cleric weapons, but when you dual class, you can take proficiencies in only in cleric weapons and when the fighter class reactivates your proficiencies in non cleric weapons will still be useless.
from cleric to fighter i believe the same restrictions exist. when the cleric class reactivates, the non cleric proficiencies will be lost.
dual classing from cleric to fighter is not reccomended. you will not get the bonus hp from the fighter's first levels and your spell selection will be very poor.
