all magic party

Post by jDED »

I'm thinking of starting a new game with a party of made up of all mages...
was wondering if anyone who has tried this before might have some suggestions.
If they have was it fun and challenging or no challenge?

I am somewhat obsessed with magic-users and would like to keep the melee as low as possible. I realize i would need at least one mage/thief and mage/cleric. But it would be cool I think to have one summoner, one necromancer, etc.

I reccomend at least 1 good tank and if you need all caster why not go with a ranger/cleric he would go a long way to help your tanking problems as well as be a good devine caster / summoner

This is a potent party that I think could do you good.

Kensai/Mage (plenty of strategies featured in this forum)
Swashbuckler/Mage (great character when powered)
Cleric of Helm/Mage (True sight definately handy)
Sorcerer (dispelling and offensive magic)
Wild Mage or Conjurer (summoner and other funky spells)
Skald or Blade (archer and bard buffing)

I've played a party like that before. The thing is, there are very few straight spellcasters in the game. Of course there are combos. And you'll need at least a thief/mage combo if you're not playing one yourself. Edwin is a necessity, being the strongest mage. There are also some great NPC mods, if you need different characters than the ones that come with it.

(Pssst, if you play a girl, and plan to have Edwin in your party, the Edwin romance mod is quite fun. =)

I find it easier to play this way, since I'm not very fond of melee action.

thanks guys i think i might try that as I do like to play evil parties. I'll look for that edwin mod as he is one of my favorite NPCs. I would be cool to get powered enough early on to bust up some cowled wizards for interfering with my business.
SPOILERISH>>>>

I just don't really like the idea of having to pay to use magic in town. especially when I'm gettin attacked by Bodhi's Minions b4 I even come close to 5000. and i'm always forgetting and casting haste then the coward wizards come with a few guards and I have to run. Kind of weak for a bhaalspawn don't you think?....But's its a good element in this game as it keeps it a little intersting if you dont bribe.
