Help with "Canvas the Castle" quest in Chorral (spoiler)

I've interviewed all the suspects and found the first clue, a painting in the western tower. The quest log tells me to continue looking for more clues.

I've talked to every person I could find in the castle and looked in each tower, plus looked at every painting. I've searched every suspects room for paint brushes, or anything like that. So far, nothing. The map doesn't give any help (arrow-wise) on where to go next.

Any tips or suggestions?

You were right to search the rooms of the suspects, guess you must have missed a container of sorts, because 1 of them does give you a clue.

The last clue has somethiing to do with where the culprit went during the night of the robbery, if you lissen carefully to the things the suspects say you will notice 1 of them is lying. After that it's a matter of finding the last clue of one of the culprits locations of that night.

First, question everyone.

Then, Go to the bottom of the west guard tower and 'use' the painting.

Then, Go to the female mage's room and open the chest on her desk. It contains painting supplies.

Then, the last step that confuses most people, Go to the dining room carpet and 'use' it. You can now confront the mage and she'll confess. This part is especially poorly thought out as I only discovered it when I Picked up some food off the ground after kicking everything off the table

WOW I never would have figured that!!

I have spent like 2 hours looking through every box and everything. I went to the kitchen and grabbed everything on all the shelves. I never would have guess ed to activate the rug!! How in the world was I supposed to figure that one out!?

Trouble Activating Quest Items

I've found the "unusual" painting and the paint stain under the dining room table. However when I activate them nothing happens. Also when I search the Female Mage's room I can't open her Lecturn. I see a bag icon but nothing happens when I try to open it. I assume the painting supplies are in there but I can't get to them.

You have to talk to all five possible suspects before you can collect the evidence. They're the only named NPC's in the castle and the countess might give you information on their whereabouts.

i found the paint supplies in the lectern, and the footsteps on the rug. but there is no "unusual" painting anywhere to be found in the bottom of the west tower. is this a bug? i searched every crate and sack. even took a screenshot.

cant get orok (the steward) to tell me his story

i know where the clues are and i know that i must talk to all the 5 peoples first. but the problem is that i cant get orok to tell me his story. he says he can't give me information and when i try to bribe him it says that the disposition is maxed, so i can't continue on the quest if i don't make him say his story and i cant bribe him cus the disposotion is maxed even if i haven't bribed or persuaded him before. what shall i do? can anyone help me? is it something wrong with my cd?

Help with the clue painting??

I have done everything mentioned in the chain except find the painting to "use". I have been through the west tower of the private quarters countless times and there is no painting! Feeling like an idiot and don't want to spend more time on this minor quest. Can someone please assist me? Thanks!

warning! the quest is glitched if you pick up the painting tools before finding the painting hidden in the western tower. if you did so, you must speak again with chanel, once you have all the evidence. this was one of the most frustrating quests for me, as i also checked every crate and corner of the castle. in order to work well you must find the painting first, then the painting tools and the stains on the rug.

Poop!

I didn't take the tools but did discover them and the stains before the painting. This may be the problem that I am having. What a pain for such a minor quest! Guess I have to go back to an earlier save. Sigh! Thanks for the help!

P.S. I restored to an earlier save and still do not see any painting in the west tower. Please can anyone help me? This is driving me crazy!

completly lost

i have oblivion on xbox 360 i don't know if that matters. I have a question about this stupid quest i found everything except the painting. And i read everyone elses responses and i went and talk to the mage again. But it didn't change anything. Theres still no painting in the west tower. Is there something wrong with my game or do i need to do something else ty
