I have gained a few nice items by using Pick Pocket but you don't need to put a lot of points into the skill. There are gloves available early in the game that will boost this skill.
Dan Simpson]Commoners and Peasants: Nothing wrote:Special items:
Ribald in the Adventurer's Mart, Waukeen's Promenade: Ring of Regeneration
Guardian Telwyn in the Temple of Helm, Temple District: Helm of Glory (quest
reward, if you want to have it before completing the quest)
Tolgerias in the Council of Six Building, Government District: Ring of Ram
(He will drop another one after defeating him in the Planar Sphere)
Taquee the Djinn in Trademeet: Bottle of Efreeti
Lord Feveron, in the Bridge district, can be pickpocketed for a scroll of
Simulacrum.
The Lady of the Keep, in the de'Arnise hold, can be pickpocketed for a scroll
of Protection from Normal Weapons.[/spoiler]

Regardless of how high the thieving skills are, there's always a 1% of
failure. Quicksave is a must. It's possible to steal from everybody who has
a cyan circlet. So you can steal the Ring of Gaxx and get another one by
killing him (but this seems to be cheating). Charming the creature increases
the chances of pick-pocketing (don't do this to important NPC's).
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.

I just like to pickpocket the guards all around the place to try and find a scroll of Death Spell. Death Spell is really hard to get and there's only something like two places it can be picked up naturally.
Warning: logic and sense is replaced by typos and errors after 11pm
Spoiler
, it has yet to return

Once had a similar game were i pickpocketed/stole rather than looted all my items and got good equipment with 50k gold without leaving Athkatla.

Look for items that are also left ungaurded or that you don't have to do anything in terms of combat to gain - warhammer +1 in slums house, staff of curing+2 in graveyard tomb, ring of pickpocketing from renegade theif in aran's domain, the studded leather armor +1 buckler +1 and short sword+2 in mae'vars guild hall can all be gained without doing his/renal's quests etc.

I tend to pickpocket the dryads at the beginning for the Efreeti bottle in case I don't have DBG. That saves up for a whole lotta running ^^.

Ribald is a must if you want that thing. There are two in the game, AFAIK, right? Not counting Gaax ring.

I like to pickpocket the genie for the genie bottle.

And of course, the classics to double the number of items. I think Bioware could have increased the number of items pickpocketable on non-storekeepers, specially cause that would really make it worth it for, say, mage-thiefs to actually make their way by pickpocketing wizards instead of prefering stealth and magic to make their way through Athkatla.
Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.
