Quickest way to make money...possible spoiler
Quickest way to make money...possible spoiler
I have stopped playing BGII until I finish BGI and bring in my char from there. I want to make the 20,000 gold quick without gaining much XP (I want to use as much XP as I can after I get Imoen back). Selling Flashers and Goodberries create gold and I can pick pocket/burglarize. Are there any other methods? That is a lot of freakin goodberries to sell!

This will net you a bit of experience.. but not nearly as much as the big quests.
If you don't mind fighting, there are several groups you can dispatch that have some nice gear. While you'll want to keep some of it, there will also be plenty worth selling.

I suggest you read da_venom's thread 'Pick Pocket List' as it states what can be lifted without actual combat if you want to go that way and I also posted about how to get easy money.
'Once had a similar game were i pickpocketed/stole rather than looted all my items and got good equipment with 50k gold without leaving Athkatla that never involved actual combat.
Look for items that are also left ungaurded or that you don't have to do anything in terms of combat to gain - warhammer +1 in slums house, staff of curing+2 in graveyard tomb, ring of pickpocketing from renegade theif in aran's domain, the studded leather armor +1 buckler +1 and short sword+2 in mae'vars guild hall can all be gained without doing his/renal's quests etc'

I may have got the wrong idea from reading your post, so apologies if that is the case. The quickest way to make money without resorting to SK is stealing from stores and selling. Specifically:
Begin the Shadow Thieves quest where you get sent to the other guildhall in the docks district. Go there and drink a few potions of Master Thievery then steal as many Mace+2 as you can carry from the merchant there (he has an infinite amount). You can sell these for thousands back at the main Shadow Thieves base. You might even be able to sell them back to the same guy without moving, Im not sure. You can repeat this until you have the cash you need.
Its horrible, cheesy, and cheating - but it works.

Even better is to take the process described for the Mace +2 at Mae'Var's guildhall and add the wands from Irenicus' dungeon. They provide a *lot* of money.
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.

As I recall, on my last game, I went straight to Trademeet and came back with more than enough to upgrade a few things and prepare to head out across the ocean.
That left all the local quests still waiting to be completed, including the keep, the tanner, and rumors of several dragons.
I don't bother playing with coin that way - I found it much more challenging trying to fight a group of trolls with little more than a few level 3 druidic spells.

Don't think I'm a paladin, or anything.... I had a few games where I experimented with thievery on my own...
The problem is I started doing that, and then I thought, "Well, gee. I'm spending an hour trying to get 200K stolen... why not just clua it in and save the time?" Same thing with the exp loops you can find (tanner quest, chromatic demon, etc) - I now purposefully ignore those loopholes to greater success, and it really does make the game more fun.
It's a slippery slope. You play in the "grey area" once, not big deal. Hey - it can even make the game a lot more fun. But if you keep doing it, I found that it could actually spoil some of the fun of the game.
Try taking on a lich straight out of Jon-Jon's abode, or tackling the shadow dragon one your first quest (I've never used Call Woodland Beings before that game!), or trying the first two levels of Watcher's Keep with all your characters below level 10. :mischief:

I have as yet to beat the Shadow Dragon but this is still my first time through and most of my characters are right around level 9 or 10.
I haven't taken advantage of any bugs in the software to gain additional money as is the subject of this topic but I can truly say that there wouldn't be any challenge and enjoyment from the game if every battle was over after a few sword strokes.
Thinking that I had a strong party and then getting my arse handed to me by the Pebblecrusher dude's gang definitely made the game more fun for me and was certainly more satisfying when I was able to go back and win (barely).

cheesy bugs?
I'll concede that it is unrealistic for storekeepers to fail to notice that you are selling them something you have just stolen from them and for them to have more money than the Bank of the Radiant Heart -the bank that says "only if you're good". however, it is also unrealistic for you to sell a wand for 15 GP and then be fleeced for 15,000 GP to buy it back. OK it has been charged, but who says that you wanted a 50/100 charge wand?
I try not to do the sell/steal - and often pay for the wands rather than steal them back, but there is no facility for haggling or getting a fair price for the full plate +1 you have looted - sale price say 10,000. if a shopkeeper only gives me 800GP for that - my PC has the right to steal it back!
watchers keep is a good challenge at low level - especially as the treasure and the enhanced stats you can eventually get are ample reward. however, watchers needs either good technique or luck to get through - even with my 4-member party that started it around lvl 10-13 struggle at times. it is a big test, but I'm hoping to get lums machine working later today...

Apologies first for being off-topic.
@DJ: I COULDN'T AGREE MORE !
First time thru, eh? I myself finished it last year for the first (and only) time.
Pebblecrusher punked me, too. After I saved the Universe by rescuing Aerie in Waukeen's Promenade
, I thought my level 9 dudes were tough, for about 5 minutes. Then Pebblecrusher gave me lip, so I says to myself: "punk don't know who he messin' wit, hi-ya!" After all, I just smoked a gnome illusionist in a circus tent.
Alas, I was handed a reload by a gang that sported a parrot named Pooky. But that defined how I played the whole rest of the game. I felt like Small Potatoes, and that made it that much cooler getting thru to the end.
@DJ: start a new thread that depicts your exploits, bro! It'd be fun hearing reaction from someone going thru the game for the first time. Not that another thread about what would be the most powerful class/spell/item/NPC is getting boring or anything...
Apologies again for being off-topic.

I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

that crowd of punks are fairly tough, but for some reason they don't check out why a whole host of summoned monsters trashes their room. I raise some skellies and get them to stand by Pooky, then give the main man some lip and rush out of sight-line - when the bad guys turn red, they congregate around the bottom corner of the room and don't come out to play - so you can continue to summon creatures as cannon-fodder.
Sometimes if an NPC uses an area effect, they can cause another NPC to regard them as hostile and you get uncivil war amongst your enemies - sending summoned creatures into such a situation creates more opportunity for such "friendly fire" incidents.
the beserker sword has the side effect of making the wielder immune to various powerful attacks and if you keep a remove curse handy, it can be rather useful - I had a party member take on a demi-lich using it - and whilst it didn't do damage - it kept the creature occupied so that it could be brought down by being repeatedly whacked on the head by the staff of the magi by a hasted mage.
not as good as the slave compound fight though - but the reward of celestial fury makes that one a must. 5 skill points in katana and a +3 sword that can stun...nice!

The only thing I will add is that I jsut did the quest to get Aerie and the Nalia quest sold a load of+1 and +2 crossbows, bolts, unneeded scrolls and the like and I already have 35,000 gold - more than enough to pay off the cowled wizards and the 15k needed to move on with the story
Valor pleases you, Krom, so grant me one request; grant me revenge!
