Big, big trouble after using enableracemenu

Post by Coot »

Whaugh!! I was playing around with the 'enableracemenu' cheat - with unforeseen consequences.
- After trying to use it, the inventory screen won't go away, no matter how much I click the right mouse button.
- Far worse, the problem won't fix itself after reloading, loading another game or after restarting a new game!

I'd like to avoid reinstalling MW, because I've progressed quite far with my current pc. I've also installed around 180 mods so reinstalling would take hours!

I promise I won't try to change my race again. I won't even try to cheat again, really!

Can somebody help me?

I can only suggest you Google everywhere to see what other people's experiences are. Console commands were put into place during testing and for that purpose alone. They were never guaranteed to work, and enableracemenu is among the buggier ones. There's a long history of problems with it.

Worse comes to worse, you could always search for it up on the ES Morrowind boards.

Have you tried to click the square in the upper right corner of the inventory window?

Yes, I have. The game runs, my pc can move etc., but the screen won't go away.
Also, all my spells have disappeared (a more common occurrence when you're stoopid enough to try this command) and the little box to the lower left that displays what weapon you have in use is gone too.
Since it's also affected my other saved games and even new ones I guess it runs much deeper than a simple pushy inventory screen. I was hoping somebody would know what to change in the Morrowind.ini file or something along those lines.

@Fable: I did extensive Googling to no avail. I found a lot of warnings about this console command though  :D . I've also posted my question at the Elder Scrolls forum as you suggested. You never know.

I'm thinking my =sigh= next pc will be a Bretjitt.

Strange that doesn't work :/ This usually happens to me too after using enableracemenu, but it's always been easy to fix.

The spell screen should appear if you click (or doubleclick, I can't remember) the spell box at the lower left, and you should be able to "unsticky" the inventory screen (and at the same time the weapon box should appear) by clicking the small square, at the upper right of the inventory screen.

*eeek* I feel your pain...

I can't help you with your question, but here is something I have learned to do after many re-installs myself.
The last time I re-installed the game, once I had installed all of the plug-ins I always use, (i.e various texture improvements, the Domina meshes, custom races, shops, NOM etc.) I made a backup copy of my Data Files Folder which I called "Morrowind Base." That way, when I inevitably have to undergo this process again mod installation will not be nearly as tedious, because I can slip a copy of my backed up "base" data files with mods already installed into my Morrowind directory.

(note: you'll obviously need to rename the folder "Data Files" once you plop it in)

If you have the hard drive space, something to consider with this upcoming reinstall... :D ;)

Thank you, DW. I remember when your hard disk crashed some months ago and I then planned to do exactly as you suggested: make a Data Files back-up and also put a copy of all good mods on CD-R.
Guess what? I'm still planning!
