Fire Drakes chase in CE?

Post by Daeanor »

I don't edit my save files. I don't think that's any fun; I want to actually find everything I use, and earn my skills the hard way. So I was running my knight/sorcerer over to the flame goblin area to do the flask quest, and I had no fire resists to speak of - just that +5 ring I had picked up somewhere along the line. Having only that, I had no intention of messing with the drakes - just kill the gobbies and get out. So I did just that, using more potions than otherwise, but it was quite doable.

On the way out, I must have got the attention of the drake that hangs out near the north end of the area. I just weaved a bit as I ran; no real problem. Near the north exit I got jumped by some little stuff, no big deal, but I figured the drake was out of my hair, becasue I no longer heard him roaring behind me.

I leisurely made my way back to Arindale, sold off all the junk I had accumulated, repaired my stuff, and went to look for Erinllor (spelling?) to finish the quest. No sign of him by the road, so I jogged around that little lake, and through the woods a bit, bagged a few witches, a whole lot of wolf packs, the usual stuff for that area ... all of which to is to say I spent a considerable amount of time just poking around.

To my great surprise, I suddenly heard roaring and got hit with a fireball. I quaffed a potion real fast, and turned around, and that pest drake was right there, south of Arindale! He apparently had been following me around the entire time! I wasn't about to revert to a saved file at that point (my last save before the drake was before the goblin fight too), so I determined to take it out. Luckily, they don't come in too close, and by sidestepping constantly and using a LOT of arrows, I was able to kill it. I got lots of adds in the process, but it was easy enough to maneuver them so the drake killed them instead of me having to worry about it. Of course, that ninny quest guy shows up in the middle of this, and I wound up eating a fireball to finish that up, but I managed to get it all done and survive.

Is this normal? Do the wandering drakes chase you forever? If so, I guess when I do get around to stealing an egg, I can forget about a snatch-and-run, I'll have to at least kill the one in the middle area before the nests. I'll have to get some fire wards for sure now ...

I think you were just unlucky and a second drake spawned on you. They spawn sometimes around Arindale.

That would explain it. It was just south of Lake Hadoen, to be precise, but if they can be a random in the area, that makes sense.

Acually they can follow you, but they have never followed me that far, but i would bet he was an unlucky spawn.

The mobs in DL are kind of stupid. Even if they followed forever, you would think they would get stuck at the nest area trying to go through the wall. I have had mobs get stuck on little hills where I could pick them off with my bow. I killed a troll giant that way near Bolen - I have no idea really what he was stuck on, but it made an easy fight.

I just got around to doing the drake egg run. I put up my ward, ran in there, found an egg, and ran out again. Once again, I thought I was clear, but a drake jumped me by the Hall of Weapons in Arindale. I just didn't feel like fussing with it, so I ran pretty much non-stop back to Fargrove and ignored it. So they do seem to chase in CE now.

I had moved on from the Arindale area, finished off Okatta, and did a good part of the Forbidden Lands when I decided I could beef up a little and should do some drake hunting. I took the Moongate back, popped into the temple to buy some extra Fire Wards, and when I came out, that drake that chased me before was hanging out by the apothecary :) . Patient lil lizard.

just a heads up, i dont know of this is a glitch or what, but i ran into about 5 fire drakes in the forribiden lands (difficulty was on hard and spawn rate one more). Has any one else ran into them there?

I've had a few spawn near Mog's Safehouse, as well as Troll Giants. So I would say it's normal.
