Allright so I JUST got my CE via UPS today so I installed it and the first item I got...some necky in a chest and it had ?? on the item so I thought....hey gotta ID it first.
So I moved on and the more items I got armor/weapons etc they ALL have the ?? now my original items that I started with don't have the ?? and I can equip the items and I notice a stat gain now that I looked into it more but its really annoying not being able to see my item stats...anyway to fix this?
Here is a screenshot of ammy....it gives +8 speed...very nice for a first drop lol.

That's just how the game works now. There's nothing to "fix." If it really annoys you, you should choose a class that gives you the identify skill.
And if it's not clear, you can right-click on an item to attempt to identify it. Even without the identify skill, you have a chance to identify low level items.
SWC
Sir Edmund:"Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?" Me:"It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."
It's quite logical that items picked up have to be identified. That's why you have the Identify skill in the C screen. You need to put some points into it
It's still a cruddy implementation. Once you identify something, you would think you would remember it - but new items are only identified if you already have an identified item of the same type on your character. Sell them all off, pick up another, and it's ?? all over again. You get to just not bother after a while. If something looks cool, and I can't identify it myself, I try it on to check for penalties. If there are none, I look at my stats. I will generally have a merchant identify everything unknown that isn't obviously junk, but a good part of the game is between merchants.
Here's a question: When your equipment roster is full of unidentified items, and you try to pick up another one, does the game still automatically drop the lowest value item, or does it assume all unidentified items are the same value?
So if I go to pick up an unidentified item that if I knew what it was is worth $100, would it possibly drop an unidentified item that is really worth $10,000 if I knew what it was?
Does my question make sense?
What I'm getting at is: do I need to actively manage my inventory for value and pay close attention to items being picked up by the graphic on screen (and judge based on my previous experience if it is worth more than what I think I already have)?
Identified, unidentified, things have exactly the same value. You can do a ghetto ID just by seeing what the sell price is - cheap means it's junk. So I wouldn't worry about it, the real trash will get discarded first.
