Best guitar?

Post by SupaCat »

So any way what do you think is the best guitar? + what guitars do you have?

I have a fender stratocaster.

My guitar is a standard SE PRS. It looks like that:

I don't get into brands that much, although I do drool regularly over owning a Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty :D

I've heard people suck on Fenders, Gibsons, and Jacksons, and I've heard people play the Hell out of some 125 dollar cheap knockoff. Of course, that may just be my cheap nature talking :D

True that!

I always find it funny that the person that can not even play has an expensive guitar while my buddies that can burn a fretboard up are using guitars that look like crap because they are so old or beat up.

Having an expensive tool (guitar, car, whatever) doesn't make the user better but you can definitely tell a difference when Joe Satriani plays on a $500 guitar or a $2,000 guitar.

@Fiberfar: I have no idea what you mean with scalloped but here's a picture of my fender stratocaster http://www.fender.com/products/prod_ima ... 800_xl.jpg
Btw: is it normal that only one of the 2 bass things on the guitar works?

Oh yeh I also have a spanish guitar (heavy)

@Daemon: I agree but I think if i'm going to buy a guitar it's gotta be a beauty because after my guitar now, I don't think of buying one more.

Hmmm.... How to explain that?
A picture should do the trick.

The fretboard is carved out in between the frets in order to reduce friction between the pads of the guitarist's fingers and the fretboard. With a scalloped fretboard guitar, the pads of the guitarist's fingers touch only the strings, and not the fretboard.

@SupaCat: A guitar should always be good looking.

Edit: @Fiberfar: A picture truly is worth a 1,000 words (well in this case about 43 :o ). LOL

43 words :p

Doesn't the scalloped fretboard require quite the skills to play on?

It certainly took me a while to get used to mine even though mine is only "slightly" scalloped. Now I can barely play on a "standard" fretboard. :(

What about you?

I don't play guitars. I wish I did though (meaning I might pick it up.... sometime)

There is no such thing as "best guitar". Which is good depends on what you play. Gibson SG (I only have Epiphone copy) is the probably the best choice for the music I play (vintage metal), but it's probably not really that good for shredding. I also constantly switch between D and dropped C tunings, so a Floyd Rose guitar guitar would be pretty useless for me, but again it might be good for shredding.

I just opted for thicker strings for lower tunings when I needed to (instead of 7 strings with guitar or 5 with bass)... I still could play chords and all things were much more simpler. I had a 70-14 set in my normal guitar and 125-60 set with my 4 stringed bass. That was when we used flat C tuning.

5 stringed bass just might be a good idea on some rare occasions, but I just don't get the idea with 7 stringed guitars. Must be some kind of nu metal thing.
