The mudcrab is a pain to find, even when you know the island its on. The best advice i can give you is to get the mudcrab door plugin, which sends you straight to him from balmora. But if you dont want to cheat this is the best advice i can give you:

He is on a tiny island, quite well hidden from view so you have to walk right around all the little islands in the area. The best directions are that he is on Azura's Coast, just SouthEast of Mzahnch Ruins, East of Vivec, SouthEast from Suran.

lol - good luck

Why not try Creeper or Ababael Timsar-Dadisun?

You don't explore much do you? Creeper is a merchant scamp who lives in Caldera. Its a small town, you can hardly miss him. Try the second floor of Ghorak Manor. He carries 5K gold and buys just about every type of loot except alchemy gear, ingredients, lantern/candles/torched, clothing and books. He buys armor, weapons, potions, all enchanted items, household junk, soul gems, spell scrolls, etc. The orcs he lives with are a friendly lot, and you can sleep in the cots. Can't ever recall being attacked by spawning assassins in there either. On the third floor is an orc who is a stone carver. Try to figure out what quest he plays a big part in.

Mudcrab is not a plug-in and you should be able to find his island. There is apparently a mod that transports you to his island but that's cheesy. Just search along the east coast of Mzahnch until you find a tiny island seperated from the island with Mzahnch by a narrow, fordable bit of water. Wade through the water and speak to the crab there.

The spells mark and recallwill help - they mean you will never have to find it twice.

If you have Tribunal (though I don't know how the XBox compares in terms of this) you can also make a notation on the local view of your map. This is not a bad idea, since you may need to mark something else, or you could accidentally hit "Mark" while scrolling through your spells.

The latter actually happened to me... :o . Needless to say, I was pleased I noted him on my map because it had been a while since I'd saved.

No idea if he is a merchant, but a Google search reveals that, apparently, he is a trainer in the Zainab camp.

He's a merchant with 9000 gold, I think. And as dragon wench wrote, he resides in the Zainab camp.

creeper

creeper's a reliable source of cash, if not slighty strange. I felt a sudden urge to cut him down at first sight.
