Many people here likely already know this, but File Planet has a huge range of different retextures that are worth checking out.

I highly recommend Faylynn's Natural Stone Hlaalu textures for starters. I originally had Korana's, which are beautiful, but I find I prefer the older, more rustic, look of these.

Pretty much what I'll do, too. I suspect I'll go back to Qarl's Landscape Remix along with Carmajo's city textures, or mix in some of Korana's with the latter.

Carnajo's city replacers were the first texture replacers I tried, and I remember being amazed at how beautiful Morrowind could be. I considered using them again when I recently reinstalled, but I've completely fallen in love with Headless Wonder's Shadows & Light series that can be found at TheLys.org

I haven't seen that one before. Thanks for the tip. I might try it out as I love trying out new replacers and see how it completely changes the game's atmosphere.

Do you know a site where I can view good-sized screens? The images on TheLys are little better than thumbnails when it comes to comparisons. PlanetElderScrolls doesn't possess the series.

Consider Brash's Fantasy Morrowind, too. Definitely not realistic, but very well done.

I just found some nice previews here, along with previews of most other major modders.

@Fable: perhaps this can elucidate your confusion ;)

Basicly, there are two ways for a modder to implement new textures for already existing objects:

a) He changes the meshes/textures for a certain object, using textures with a new name (and possibly putting them in a custom map, like meshes\a). For this to work, he has to save those changes in an esp file. Uninstallig this kind of mod is rather easy, simply by unchecking the esp.

b) Rather than giving his textures new names, the modder gives his textures the exact names of the original ones he wants to change. When loading up the game, Morrowind will always use the textures in the Data Files folder first. The original textures in the bsa file are only used when there is no counterpart in the user's Data Files.

Type b is where my little trick comes in: if you want to remove this type of texture replacer, the only thing you have to backup is the original compressed file you downloaded. Unzip/rar it to a different map (not the Data Files folder directly), then select all the textures and cut and paste them to the Textures folder, and click Yes to All when asked to overwrite. When you cut/paste something in Windows, the copied files will remain selected after you've pasted them, so you can simply press the delete button without having to worry about textures from other mods.

I hope that makes it clear to you know, my first post was indeed rather confusing ;)

Actually, yes, that does clarfiy things. Though I find it astounding something Microsoft wrote into the design of the Windows OS actually can be found to help us in any way. I think this is the one of the signs of the Apocalypse, or at any rate, the Apocalypso...

Thanks. :)

Thanks! Not bad, but I think I still prefer Qarl's efforts. Might give Faylynn's a try, though, upon your recommendation.

Regarding complete texture packs,
Vibrant Morrowind is also one to consider, and it is all individual work.

I haven't tried the above because I suspect it will do nasty things to my FPS, so I use:
*Landscape Remix
*Brash's Land Patterns

and the city/architecture texture replacers I've mentioned here previously

I use a combination of Vibrant Morrowind and Better Looking Morrowind as my base texture replacer, and despite playing on a low end laptop I don't have any fps problems. I've had huge slowdown with mods that add sounds, lights, trees ... though.

I use the LowFat Morrowind sound replacer which made a difference for me, without really noticing any decrease in sound quality.

A couple of smaller replacers I use:

* Plangkye's Telvanni replacer
* Earth_Wyrm's Swampy Swamps which is apparently not quite finished, but still very nice.

Thanks for the tips, I just downloaded the lowfat sound replacer, hopefully it will make a difference.

Based on what you say, I think I'll give vibrant MW a try, I always make backups anyway.

I also use Shannon's Telvanni textures, they have a really different appearance, but they look and feel quite natural even so. I just tried to find them on the Summit, but they don't seem to be there, so here are my own screenshots.
