I'm making a new character, a ninja (Kensai/Thief), and I want to use my own portrait (because, no offense to the game developers but, these pictures are crap).
I have formatted the picture to the correct size (110 x 170) and it is a JPEG, but It won't appear on the selection.
what should I do?

BGII requires 24 bit, Bitmap files (.BMP). So simply convert your JPEG to BMP and it'll show up. You also need a 36 x 60 image (for the sidebar in the game). And make sure that you placed those files in a folder called portraits within the main folder where the game is installed - default C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA

Sorry, forgot about the filename length. You can only have 8 characters as the name of the portraits. What I did was put "L" at the end of the large portrait and "S" at the end of the small portrait - that way, you can have the same name for them, but of course it's only 7 characters longs.
Eg.
#######L.BMP (large portrait, 110x170, 24B, Bitmap)
#######S.BMP (small portrait, 36x60, 24B, Bitmap)
Eg.
#######L.BMP (large portrait, 110x170, 24B, Bitmap)
#######S.BMP (small portrait, 36x60, 24B, Bitmap)
I can Help You!
Dear Gamer;
Just cut/copy your picture to MS paint. Then go to the sketch/skew or CTRL+W and make the picture fit 38x60 for small portraits and 110x170 for large. Next mark it with no more than 8 characters. And then save it. For example I used a portrait and named it FemaleS (for small) and FemaleL (for large). Getting the pictures right is tricky so if it doesn't work using the CTRL+W method just go to the Attributes or CTRL+E to trim it down to size. Make sure that both of your portraits are in MS Paint or else the program will not be able to read it. If you have any questions just email me. Good Luck!
