Anyone Planning on Getting The Witcher?
Other than me, that is? I know some of you are reading the sticky, since it's recieved so many views, and was wondering if anyone here other than myself is planning on picking up a copy as soon as it comes out?

Went and take a look at what the Witcher looked like at Gamespot and it looks good and plays good, though from the videos I've seen, there seems to be some frame rate issues at certain parts of the game. On another note, this game seems to play out a bit like Fable in terms of the controls and the camera angle.
Anyway, CDProjekt has done a really good job in modifying Bioware's Aurora engine. Almost looks like a completely different engine with no trace of the Aurora looks at all (kind of reminds me of what Lucasarts did to the Unreal Engine implemented in Star Wars: Republic Commando).
Enough said. I will try out this game.
Thanks, Hill-Shatar for bringing this up.

''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

Yes, I will definitely get the Witcher as soon as I can

Respect the Fury of the Furries.
I thought that this thread is almost lifeless at first.....Oh well, I just want to correct what I've mentioned a long time ago. At first, I thought that this game will play like Fable: The Lost Chapters due to the camera angle and the way he fights in that E3 trailer. I was so wrong. When I saw the gameplay footage much later, it plays very much like Neverwinter Nights and some other top-down RPGs that frequently uses the mouse for almost everything except that the view seems to be 3rd person rather than top-down (you know me. I really dislike top-down RPGs).
Personally, I would like to try out the demo of the game when its released but I might have some apprehensions as to whether I'll have the initiative to play through the whole game or not. Only time will tell.

The Aurora engine is the same engine used by Neverwinter Nights so I always expected it to be similar graphics wise. Saying that, they seem to have done an excellent job with the graphics, and hopefully with the storyline and gameplay too. I really like the view used in Neverwinter Nights so if they use the same view in The Witcher then I'd definately buy it
Sorry I didn't comment on this earlier but from the looks of the engine, it looks like a completely different engine even though its the Aurora Engine itself. Must have been heavily modified until there is no trace of Aurora in it. CD Projeckt have done a very good job here.mr_sir wrote:The Aurora engine is the same engine used by Neverwinter Nights so I always expected it to be similar graphics wise. Anyway, about the view, yeah, I agree with you. It might have the top-down view as well but it makes me wonder how it will work considering that there will be 3 different types of attacks because according to the combat demo, you have to aim at the top part of the enemy to unleash high attacks, centre part for medium attacks and the low part for low attacks. The guy was using a more close up view so I can't tell how it will look like if its in the top-down view.

Yeah I thought the same thing when I first saw the screenshots. Its looks completely different to how I imagined it would be if they are using the Aurora engine. I just hope they have put as much effort into the storyline and quests as they have modifying the engine.DesR85 wrote:Sorry I didn't comment on this earlier but from the looks of the engine, it looks like a completely different engine even though its the Aurora Engine itself. In Neverwinter Nights you can zoom right in so its a close up view or zoom really far out. It could be a similar system. Although, from what you have said about the combat demo, maybe they have changed it so its just a close up view rather than top-down view. I can't see any other way that they could get that combat system to workDesR85 wrote:Anyway, about the view, yeah, I agree with you. I will certainly buy this game unless I find some reason why I shouldn't around release time. Euros tend to do a great job with these kinds of atmospheric rpgs. The story seems compelling, the graphics engine more than adequate, the effort of the developers appears to be excellent. I don't prefer fixed character games (no female option even), but this may be a keeper.

Yep!
As soon as I get my new computer ordered in a few weeks, I'll put in an order for The Witcher too.
