Love this board, have been lurking for some time, looking for other peoples views on fav. RPGs, finally got new computer and it was time to buy new games, well new for me and this board has been great help, ps off the subject but seems I'm an old fart compared to most posters on this board!

Honestly, I'm not really that much of an RPG fan. More to FPS, RTS and 3rd person action games. Started liking RPGs when I got Fable: The Lost Chapters. Sure I've played older RPGs like Final Fantasy 7 and 8 but I grew tired of the turn-based aspect of these games and went dormant until Fable came along.
Anyway, the greatest RPG of all time, for me, is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic followed by Fable: The Lost Chapters even though I played Fable: The Lost Chapters first.

''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price
Heard a lot about Morrowind. I know its great but I didn't pick it up as I didn't like the first person view. I also can't understand why Morrowind kind of put me off, though.

Over the years I've played many games, both Hack and Slash and pure RPG. I've probably put more hours into Might & Magic for Sega or the Baulders Gate series as any games I've played.
While M&M was nothing effects wise to todays games it was an good into gaming at about the right age 19-22 range. (Side comment related to earlier post about age and RPG)
I have just picked up Eye of the Beholder to try it out after some of the reviews. Got to love these game shops opening everywhere.
1) Baulders Gate 2
2) Might & Magic
3) Bards Tale for PC 88-92 era? First game
4) D&D for Nintendo
5) Rest of BG series
I have played many RPG's in my time and I find the best ones are those that make me angry with them when they end (like a good book).
Is there such a thing as satisfaction when it comes to this game genre?
Nope. The good games make you pissed when they end and the bad ones make you even more pissed because they're a waste of time and effort.

Yeah, and I know of one game that fits this category. Prince of Qin by Strategy First. A diablo clone with butt-ugly graphics, horrendous voice acting, irritating gameplay and very repetitive in nature if you ask me. By the way, the plot is boring (I'm being lenient here and I could say more worse things about this game, but enough said).
One of the worst RPGs that I've touched in my life. Make me feel like pumping this game full of lead.
dang yet halo2 is a awsome game oblivion is good too hmmmm and farcry and diablo hmmm
By the way, Halo 2 and Far Cry are FPS (First Person Shooters) not RPGs. They're great games to play, to be honest, but this forum is totally focused on RPGs.

Hard to choose..
But they would have to be:
Fable & Fable: The Lost Chapters
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic: I & II: The Sith Lords
Final Fantasy 1 On The N64
Final Fantasy Online (Xbox 360)
Jade Empire (Inspired By The Chinese)
Baldur's Gate I, Baldur's Gate II, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance*. *I & II
Fallout I & Fallout II
And Last But Certainly Not Least: Runescape  (MMORPG)

Well, I can't think of any other game that plays like Fable: The Lost Chapters. There are some that are close but that's about it. You could try games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 (highly recommended, both of them ) and Gothics 1 & 2, if you have the patience to bear through the combat system (if not, don't get it). Other than that, you might have to wait for a while for other upcoming titles like Gothic 3 and Jade Empire for the PC platform.
Most RPGs for the PCs seem to be top-down RPGs like Diablo and I really dislike them. Makes me feel like I'm playing a strategy game sometimes and also the view its kind of limited to me.
