Oblivion is in 1st person view, NWN is in 3rd. I generally prefer 3rd person view, I just like being jumped on by all manner of monsters from behind...
Oh, and you can pause the game in NWN, look around and give commands, you can't do too much of that in Oblivion.
Well, to me NWN was the closest I've ever felt to playing D&D in a video game. It's pretty nice (I just bought the platinum edition or whatever it was with all the add-ons and expansions included in 1 DVD).
Plus it's really easy to cheat if you want without even needing 3rd party software/spyware.

*gasp* Dar cheats!
I don't really bother with cheating in games, beyond looking into walkthroughs if I get stuck.
Unless it's a game in the Myst series...then I just have to keep the walkthrough open beside me.
Usually I just use it to try out a new race/class (get yourself to mid-level, try things out, test spells, etc) or to skip through the beginning of the game if you want to start over.
I can't even remember how many times I've gone through chapter 1 of NWN only to get bored going through the same thing over and over. So starting in chapter 2 and cheating to level 9 or so gives you a jump start.
And not having to install 3rd party software to do it is a nice touch in my opinion.
There is some character builder module that you could download, I think it gives you the XP and plot items...
It's just selected like playing a new game of NWN. Some of the modules for NWN are really great...
I started to play Myst (the original) when it first came out. I played for about 30 minutes, got bored and have never picked it or anything like it up again.
The only similar game that I ever liked was 7th Guest. A group of 5 of us clustered around a PC in the dark taking turns "driving" but we all sat there and finished it in 1 sitting (well some of us left for an hour or two to get some sleep or food but there was always at least a couple of us there).
It came out in 1993 in my 1st year of college. It was the first game I ever played that required more than 1 CD (I think it had 6-7 CDs due to all of the graphics).
I remember some really old adventure game with a haunted house...maybe it was that one.
Black Dahlia was on 8 CD's, though I think it's freeware now. A 50MB download IIRC.
I finished Myst and Riven, but gave up on Exile after about 30 minutes! I have played VtM:B and Morrowind, but am tired of those. I did enjoy 7th Guest, but my favorite adventure games were the 3 Gabriel Knights and the 2 Phantasmagoria's--although they required a lot walkthrough viewing, too.
I bought the collector's edition of Exile...it even included the strategy guide, I think...
Umm...anyway, I haven't tried the Vampire games, but Morrowind is basically similar to D&D computer games.
