While I do agree that censorship of any kind is wrong, and I do love nipples, that is not the only reason that Oblivion was rerated. The ESRB said that they rerated it because of hidden content, as well as the violence. "The violence?" You may ask... It wasn't the violence in itself, as that was just portraying real life, it was the fact that "the violence" was a broad term, which also encompassed the flood or simulated rape videos put on the net using Oblivion.
There are some horrible videos, most of them have been removed from Google Videos and Yahoo videos, but they aren't that hard to find. Some really disturbing stuff. It kind of makes me glad that children weren't put into Oblivion.
Again, this was all done by 3rd party users, not Bethesda, but still, disturbing stuff. I am personally done with Oblivion, as it didn't stand up to Morrowind IMHO.
I can't believe that the ESRB is doing this, but as a Morrowind Modder I tend to agree with a theory proposed by another modder on another forum.
Bethesda has taken a change for the worse, and is money hungry, by releasing a texture with a nipple on it, which they knew a creative modder would get on the mesh within hours, they knew that the ESRB would find out, and rerate the game. Not only would this cause a LOT of hype, but it would also make it to where Bethesda could blame the modding community. If they blame the modding community, then they don't have to release a model exporter because it will just be used for "devious nipple content," If they don't release an exporter, then really great mods cannot be made, only tweaks. If there is not a large base of fan made mods to compete, Bethesda can keep churning out crap and selling it for $2.00.
I think Bethesda knew exactly what they were doing when they put that texture in the game. They could have just as easily used a full skin texture, that nipple was unnecesary, and they knew what the reaction would be.
Oblivion re-rated M
When will people get it into their heads that nudity is not always sexual. If perhaps one could 'use' the naked person by pressing 'A' and then doing some explicitly sexual things to them, I dont see topless women running around waving swords and firing off spells as anything explicitly sexual that could be harmful to minors.
If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.

I am usually very cautious about conspiracy theories, but this really would not surprise me at all. Indeed, it aligns very nicely with a number of other things I have heard about that game....
As I've said before, I'm really not all that upset I don't have the computer to run it, I just wish my machine were better so that I could install more Morrowind mods
