Buck,
$4/month or so isn't too much money, even we, from Czech Republic will be able to pay it for a good site. We have another problem.
We do not have Visa cards - we cannot afford them. Thus, we are unable to pay even if we can afford to pay. This is the problem of all "post-communist" countries. Make your site paid and we will be forced to leave. Thinking about paid GameBanshee makes me sad even if I understand you and even if I cannot object.

Buck,
I have to say that I use this site a lot. When I saw you asking for donations, I donated immediately. I think the donation part could work better if there was some sort of response and acknowledgement--it motivates the donator to donate more. Amazon sent some sort of automated email response, but I did expect something from gamebanshee... I think that fundraising has more possibilities, but should be done more like telethons or public tv does, with some sort of target. You could let us know how close the donations have gotten you towards the target, or at least give each regular visitor to gamebanshee a rough idea of how much money each one needs to donate in order to raise enough money for your site--I really have no idea.
As for subscription, I don't like them now...they're everywhere on the internet, and unsubscribing them is a real bitch. I signed up for Consumer Reports $3.95 per month when I was car hunting, and I still can't get them to stop charging my credit card!
I agree with those who worry about getting a lot of spam--those privacy policies are unenforceable and pretty meaningless.
I don't know what the solution is...I do think that you should look into some of the ideas proposed here...tax exempt status, more support from Interplay or Black Isle or Bioware--Bioware's site really sucks, absolutely worthless--also think of all the revenue your site saves them in terms of work hours, since most people get all their tech support for the bugs in the games from sites like yours--interplay should be more than grateful. Or maybe you should start a porn site to support gamebanshee, LOL. GL
