Well, there have been some new advertisement for trojan ...
I've seen it before myself, although I honestly cannot recall when. If it were during mid-afternoon I would have to say that might be a problem as young kids may see that. Not that it's wrong IMO, some people may just be offended by such things. Although, the thought of my little sister seeing such a thing before a certain age does make me hope it has been at the times listed above and not during the middle of the day.

That depends on whether the CLOSE button is real.I have also noticed the number of ads - sometimes loud, popping up everywhere while I'm reading a page. It does annoy me, but there is a CLOSE button on most and you can close them up, that should solve your problem.
The evil nature of GameBanshee revealed below!
GameBanshee sells Xandax to make ends meet
Then, as if that was not enough, they decide to get rid of me via sweepstakes as well

I've now seen three different versions of this ad, and it looks pretty border line to me, so I've dug this old thread up.
I've gone through several pages and encountered ads for some site called 'True'. Although I'm fine with these myself, they seem to be a bit close to going across the line, since it appears that the major slogan so far is "Single and Waiting For Some Action" with several woman dressed in... fairly litte.
I decided to check it out, and it leads to a page that has a warning at the top that you had better not be married or a convict, or you can be charged for fraud. Since I didn't really want to visit in the first place, register, or do anything of the sort, I didn't go past that part, so I don't know what the content was.
Given that they don't want the people to be married, I might be a bit worried over the motivations of the site... or what imagry is allowed.

I concur with OS and Hill...
I'm pretty liberal where ads are concerned, but those "True" ads are definitely borderline. I know I'd be concerned if I saw my son clicking on one... and this is supposed to ba an all ages site....

Since I happen to be here for a HijackThis logfile thing, I decided to make a swerve through here and post this up.
I'm wondering whether or not an ad like this is age appropriate for GameBanshee?

I am completly baffled, while I mean no disrguard to anyone, 99% of the games covered here at least in the forums are 15+ are they not?
Many of the most popular titles if not the most popular are 18+, Sith Lords and Bloodlines the 2 most popular froums in the last 2 years.
I do not understand this at all, while this site may try to cater to younger audience than the titles of the actual games covered how can you possible expect not to see Seduction on the Internet, period?
Its in every grocery store, Video Rental, on TV advertisements, in Soap Operas and Prime Time Sitcoms.
BTW I am speaking of the US in case its different in other countries.
Sex is the most popular Human activity, How the Hell or Why Hell would/could you stop it?
This is nothing personal, but if sex or sexual situations offend you, you should consider talking to someone like a Scientist, Dr, Pharmacist or Councelor.
I can't imagine how you could exist in these conditions, though if you intend to continue attempt this Soicial Disconnect you will need to disconnect from society; Newpapers, TV, actually 90% of Media and certainly the Internet.

Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

Hey Acleacius,
I don't personally have a problem with it, since I actually belong to another forum where the age group is supposed to be aimed for people over the age of twenty, for the most part.
While I do think that GameBanshee is aimed at older RPG players, I also have to way in people like Oscuro_Sol, who is <blank, now unsure> years old, or Craig, who joined when he was 12 or something like that. Hell, Aegis was also 15 back in 2001 when he joined, I think.
Fact is, it's supposed to be an all-ages site from what I know. Usually that means for most site, a limit on what North Americans (don't know where you're from, apologies) call PG-13. If it looks like an ad for girls gone wild or for vibrators, than that's the part of GameBanshee's viewership who shouldn't be seeing the content.
In the end, it's all down to Buck, really.

The site is a "family" site, although some of the games are rated higher then that. Hence the rules regarding for instance profanity.
However, Buck has little direct control over which adds are shown in the rotation, but if he feels it is inappropiate, he'll try to take it up with the addvertisment provider.

I wasn't aware it was a PG-13 intended site, which must be a monster task since 99% of the games are Adult rated.
Like I say I intend no ill will towards anyone but even PG13 shows Boobs and even Frontal Nudity in movies, iir.
Not to mention every creditable Scientific study about Human Anatomy shows for example a Female’s body to be at its peak efficiency for child birth starting at 15 to about 19, so the idea that teens are not spouse to know about sex wholly unfounded.
If some parent wants to try to withhold Essential Life information from their child, it is certainly their choice but to expect the public to be act in such an irresponsible way towards the child by pretending Objective Reality does not exist, would be grossly irresponsible.
Children learn responsibility from truths, they learn irresponsibly and antisocial behavior from lies.
That is most politically correct way I can put it with out sounding frustrated at even having to have this conversation.

It is not simply a matter of being "PG-13", but more so that one behaves in a manner along "if you do not want your kid sister to read this material then do not post it" type of behaivour.
It is not a matter of "not learning the truth" or being prudish, but more out of respect for our fellow poster and to keep the maturity level high. Excatly because many of us are adults, we neither have the need nor desire to behave immature, and thus we moderate our language as we would talking to random people in real life.
It is also as much a matter of wanting to minimize possible problems which can arise seeing as this owner/administrator and hosting of this site is located within the USA, and to avoid issues, it is the site owners view that explicit sexual content and profanity etc has no place here.
But basically it is a matter of respect between yourself and the other people here.
We do discuss very mature topics, and we discuss sexual topics etc - especially in the Speak Your Mind section, however we keep them nonexplicit. And if you have a greater need to discuss the "american" view on such issues, then we've already had a number of them down in the Speak Your Mind section and you are more then welcome to go and drag them up/post new regarding this topic.

This may not be "inappropriate" per say, but it is one heck of an annoying ad. It has a 70% chance of popping up everytime I go on the home page or forums of this website, and the Age of Empires 3 ad that is also a flash graphic, REALLY slows down my system if it doesn't crash Firefox. It has crashed firefox several times which is odd considering my system is fairly decent for its specs with DSL.
Just figured this'd be the best place to post it rather than PMing Buck or something.

I also encounter that bug too whenever that Age of Empires 3 advertisement was displayed.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

I did not realize that steamy pop-ups were Essential Life information. This is a gap in my education I am not in a hurry to fill.Acleacius wrote: If some parent wants to try to withhold Essential Life information from their child, it is certainly their choice but to expect the public to be act in such an irresponsible way towards the child by pretending Objective Reality does not exist, would be grossly irresponsible.
I didn't enjoy watching "Our girls are bursting out of seems" ad which was blinking in front of me while I was browsing GB forums just a couple of days ago.
I respect the right of any person to indulge in any sort of entertainment and I expect no less in return.
I may choose to watch whatever I please but I should not be forced to do so.
That's the distinction. It seems, there are some people on this forum who feel that their right NOT to watch things they consider borderline or over the board is violated. There is no need to call them names just because they are not so "open-minded" about filth.
Man's most valuable trait is a judicious sense of what not to believe.

Is it possible to disable the sound in an advertisement? That bee/mosquito ad is just plain irritating and does nothing for making me pay attention to it.
As a matter of fact when it appears I immediately change to another webpage.
I know I can turn off my speakers but I do like to listen to msic while I surf and not the irritating sound of some bee/mosquito type thing buzzing to get my attention.

I second that, it's darned annoying, and forces me to change pages too.Rabain wrote:Is it possible to disable the sound in an advertisement? That bee/mosquito ad is just plain irritating and does nothing for making me pay attention to it.
Distrbution of games, is becoming a little like Democracy (all about money and control) - in the end choice is an illusion and you have to choose your lesser evil.
