Daystar, The Drinker, Anti-Shapeshifter and Malakar?

couldn't recognise symbol 1 in the quick slots though.

at the risk of being boring - the top-level encounter to do early is the slaver stockade in the temple district. very very tough, but the rewards are excellent. even though there are +4 weapons around, Celestial Fury at +3 with stun/sonic boom or whatever is a real tasty cleaver.

Daystar is great for undead and the once a day beam is very useful - it is fairly easy to get providing that you run away rather than fight its owner.

speaking generally - if I have Jaheira, I try to do the Trademeet quests after Umar Hills - her one on one cat fight is fun.

Good Tactic

That was a good tactic on Lassal, Daemon. I am amazed that you got across that room without setting off a trap, though. Well congrats on bagging him. That's another great feature of BG2. Most times there are numerous ways to win an encounter and players come up with up so many great and diverse strategies. Always fun to read about how someone else did it.

Daystar is a great weapon. I won't spoil your fun and say where it is other than one general comment in case you get stuck, **spoiler** it is somewhere IN Athkatla, and not outside of the city.

It's a horn of some kind, i'll re-load my game and try to figure out what...

I'm fairly sure that the Celestial Fury is the best Katana in SOA, you get a helluva'lot of experience in the battle to get it, along with some other very good loot. And it's easy enough to aquire before the asylum, most definately worth it.

i beat the peddlergang soloing right after the circustent with my berserker-> thief. was cind of hard though, but i hid a lot and backstabbed, and rage protected me aginst all the statuses. used the horrors and vampiric touch you start with, the larloch's minor drain is great for interupting spellcasters cause it's sooo quick.

the celestial fury may be the best katana in the game, but nearly tho only good katana too, so is it worth one or several proficency points?

Turns out, it's the Bronze horn of Valhalla, i usually have the Iron or Silver, so no wonder nobody recognised it.

I recently started again, soloing as an Avenger, dual-Wielding Scimitars. I tried the Pebblecrusher immediately after the circus, and it's ridiculously difficult, by the time i've cast my buffing spells, and then my hold type spells, and then my attack spells, half of them have worn off!

For the Pebblecrusher mob I think I just hasted everyone, avoided the fight in the dialogue, surrounded Pooky and the Mage, then battered the hell outta them (think I had Nalia breach someone as well, I forget). After that it was just plain (difficult) melee. I think I'd just done Umar Hills and Trademeet when I did that, I might be wrong, it's been a while.

And I do like Celestial Fury. My PC's main weapon at the mo, loving that stun (?) capability, it can really even the odds when they just have to sit there and let you batter them for a bit.

And I've just realised I've never really used the special abilites of Daystar...coulda made my life a lot easier I guess. I used to just charge into undead-ville with loads of restoration scrolls, Minsc toting the Mace Of Disruption, and hope for the best...

Post removed. If you want to ask about a party configuration, start your own thread that deals with that. Just like everyone else in this forum. ;)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

CF, Daystar and MoD

I just happen to really like using CF and it feels 'right' to put 5 stars into it from an RPG POV. the stun aspect is truly a life-saver, especially fighting creatures that drain you - you can stun them and then hit them with another weapon, such as daystar and then when the come back to motion, switch back to CF. it reduces the amount of level drain etc that you might take.

the MoD's protection makes it a weapon of choice for much of the game and I usually have a cleric using it - because a cleric losing levels, loses you negative plane protection and restoration capabilities, whereas fighters can just keep going.

Daystar can be obtained without defeating its owner, who is a bit tough for early on. in the words of Brave Sir Robin "Run Away"

I had Korgan go in using the Azure Axe with Protection from Evil, Bless, Chant, and Chaotic Commands (or enraged). The Lich died after 3 hits and never got a spell off. So far that has worked with every Lich I have encountered.
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.
