What are they? (spoilers)

Post by Shizz »

I'm not very familiar with the World of Darkness-Universe, but curious all the same, so:
Do any of you happen what creatures the "Southland Slasher" and Mr Ox are? They both aren't vampires, that's for sure, but apart from that I have no clue.
So... care to enlighten me?

I think the Southland Slasher is a Gangrel, because he has a warform when you fight him.

Mr. Ox may be a Kue Jin version of a Malkavian, because of his eyes.

Yeah the slasher is Gangrel, but is not part of an actual clan or group such as the Camarilla or Anarchs etc.

I have no idea about Mr Ox but I suspect he is one of the Eastern demons, like that shark monster is a demon of some kind.

Tres bingo. The slasher is certainly a gangrel caitiff. Mr. Ox is something. A Kuei-Jin version of a Malkavian is probably the best bet, but I have no idea what such a being would be called.

Now, as I said, I don't know that much about it...
But are you sure the killer is a vampire? After all, he's calling the player "Vampire" ; and I'm not sure, but I think his teeth aren't quite as... pointy as they ought to be.

As for Mr Ox.. my Malkavian mentioned something about a stench like sour milk... that any clou?

(Yes, I'm a pest ;-)

The slasher is definately a vampire as when you have a conversation with him and he tells you his life story it all points to him being a caitiff (which means he was made into a vamp without the consent of the Camarilla, was not adopted by a clan and thus left to fend for himself not fully knowing what he was). His warform is the Gangrel warform from the game which is why it leads us to suspect he is in fact Gangrel).

I don't know if anybody did an auspex on him, but I'm 100% sure he'll have a vampire aura.

It would also be nice to do an Auspex on Mr. Ox and see what his aura resembles. I think he's meant to be a type of demon, a bit like an Eastern version of the shopkeeper of Stephen King's "Needful Things".
I think that God in creating man somewhat overestimated his ability.

Kuei-Jin do INDEED have clans. Bone Flowers, Dragons, Cranes, Devil Tigers... Mr Ox is MAYBE one of them. Their abilities do incule the ability to slide into the world of the dead, thus vanishing from the physical world... And you might note that if you attack him, this is instantly what he does.

However, the way he acts smacks more of the Eastern Fair Folk... Yes, thats right, Asian faries. They are the kind of things you read about in old Asian legends about tricky spirits that teach people lessons in the most unusual of ways.

Gonna disagree with you on the clan thing
The "clans" you named are dharmas, philisophical choices the jinn make
since it has no bearing on the disciplines they learn, they dont really function as clans

got to agree with you on the fae thing though, evil semi-spirit man from bizzare magic land fits the bill nicely.

Oh, thats true! I see what you were getting at, my mistake.

To be clear, KoE aren't born into bloodlines like Kindred, in fact they generaly don't have a "sire", as nobody created them. They start unlife in the wild throes of an insane demon frenzy and have to slowly bring themselves out of it through a new understanding of their purpose in the world... This is usualy how they chose their "Clan". Their "sire" (should they be lucky enough to get one) is normaly just the person who takes them and teaches them.

That's my bad, I was oversimplifying.

As for the eastern fae... I used to have a book around here on them called "The 1000 kingdoms" or something, but it's been lost to time and gone to that place that all things you "used to have" go. One day I'm going to go to that place and get my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back!!
