playing as a good guy

Post by ammama »

normally in RPGs i play as an evil character, simply because i enjoy it. But with Oblivion i want to play as a pure 'good' character. A noble knight-wizard type. But i've noticed that law abiding citizens seem to lose out in Cyrrodil. The theives Guild isn't necessary evil and could be an option for a 'Robin Hood' characcter, but some of the best quests, the DB quests, simply are too evil. The same goes for quite a few other quests. Often the only way to do things is to butcher someone. You rarely get the option to convince the enemy to choose a lighter path, or something like that. In Morrowind there was much more for 'good' characters. The Imerial Legion, Cult and the Temple among a few, as well as choices for the evil.
I've tried searching for mods but again everything seems to lean towards the evil side. Even equipment seems suited for evil characters; Daedric armour and weapons etc.
It would be cool if you could join the imperial guard, and do things like trying to track down the Gray Fox or root out the Dark Brotherhood. Maybe help rescue wayward travellers etc,
Does anybody have advice? ways to get more of the good side out of the game? 'good guy' mods?

yeah i know but they're just not good in the same way as the DB is evil. other 'good' quest options would be apreciated too. Just like there are Daedric Shrine Quests I reckon it would be cool if there were Quests you could perform for the Nine. Proper detailed quests, not just wayshrines.

If recall from a couple of decades ago, it's not entirely about Good and Evil. There is also Lawful and Chaotic. Generally, a PC that's Lawful Evil is more 'good' than a character that is Chaotic Good.
I generally don't make the distinction between good and evil. I go the Lawful route, and judge things in that context.
What you're after is a Paladin. Lawful Good, and yes, in that type of character, opportunity is difficult to come by. Most of the things of which you speak (Thieve's Guild, DB) are Lawful Evil, so I have no problem joining them. The Chaotic Evil are the creatures from Oblivion, the Trolls and Goblins, some of the Daedra, and so forth. So naturally, that's where a lot of the good coin is.
Technically, even the Arena is Lawful Evil. You're murdering people and things, which is Evil, but doing it under lawful conditions.

I always play 'good guy' because I can't stand playing a character that goes around killing people for the sheer hell of it. I don't do stealing, either - I've tried but it makes me feel just bleh...

So, I don't know if DB and TG are more exciting than Fighters or Mages Guilds Quests. It doesn't matter, to me, because thare are a LOT of very dangerous places to go that have nothing to do with Quests. I have a whale of a time! :D

I get called 'a sneaky sort', usually, because I always have Sneak as a Major Skill.

Really? Nobody has ever called me that. Being the Listener for the DB, I've done my share of murdering, too. That and the odd two or three that got me started in the DB in the beginning. (I didn't do it on purpose, I swear!)
What are your stats like? Is your Infamy overwhelmingly large or something?

Normally I get compliments on my nice muscles, my Illusionist hands, my abilities to sneak and break, locks, my acrobatics, and my skill with balde and bow. I tihnk one need only be an expert in something to have people talk about you.

As for your quest to be a paladin, buy a horse, a nice shining sort of armor, a big sword, and play the role of a Knight Errant, roam the country side slaying muderous beasts, aiding pheasants in villages and hamlets across the country, and deal with criminals in the cities. I suggest starting in Anvil, lots of people to help in Anvil.
