Well.. I've tried now with a malkavian and a tremere, with and without solving sidequests first, before and after talking to LaCroix... but I just can't seem to get Nines to teach me that one point in melee upon my return from the Dane.
So pleasepleaseprettyplease - how can I get that point? Is it an either/or thing with his free brawl training? Or do I have to publicly denounce the Camarilla or something of that sort? What's it take?
Uh, Nines? How to wield that axe again..?

Here is from my Custom Traits thread http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/showt ... hp?t=53829
"Melee (any) taught by Nines before Grout mission if dialogue triggered"
4th post has complete list of howto optimise your character, thou it is a little out of date.
You can not get the dialgoue until you get the Grout mission, just go see Nines once you get the mission.
Side quest don't matter, I always do all the side quest possible in a city before doing the MQ missions.
No you don't have to renounce anyone, but obviously you should not be disrespecful, at least I wouldn't expect you could get the dialogue if your an ass.
Just save before you talk to him at the top of the stairs, it is the one where he gives you 2 mins, so you get about 2 or3 question before he stops talking.

Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

This can be tricky. If you don't choose the right dialogue options, he won't give you the free point of melee. Ask him about himself. Ask if it's worth it to keep fighting. Ask him if he's learned anything he can pass on to you.

Still took me some time, but now I've got it. Useful, since I'm a Tremere and all... Thanks, guys, for your excellent help.
