Horror Movies

Post by Kipi »

I didn't find any threads about this topic, so I decided to create it...

So, can anyone recommend any good horror movies? I've seen quite many, and noticed that especially Asian ones are well made.

List of some films I have already seen, so that those won't be suggested... :p

Omen 1-3, Excorgist (all of them), Rose Red, Wishing Stairs, The Grudge, The Ring (all of them, both Hollywood and Asian versions...), 1 Missed Call (sorry, the English name may be different... :o ), Ghostship, The Virus, The Village.

So, any ideas of what to see next?

Depends on what you mean by horror?

Like, scared senseless horror or blood and guts horror?

If you like comedy, low budget, gory-ish horror then the Evil Dead trilogy is really good :)

If you like pyschological kind of horrors/religious horrors then I enjoyed watching Stigmata too.

Well, I like more of those psychologic horror movies. Not those which only offers you blood and gore, since those aren't really scary at the end...

The Shining is by far the most psychologically horrifying movie I've ever seen. Some people think it's just a good movie and not scary at all and others I know have been truly weirded out by it. I'm not a horror movie fan at all but it truly is something you need to see, if only to because Stanley Kubrick unleashes the real Jack Nicholson... He just goes hog-wild. :D

What about John Carpenter's 'The Thing'? Its a pretty scary movie, though it came out way back in the 80s.

Other than that, I don't really watch scary movies nowadays. Lost interest in them. I'd rather play a scary game like FEAR than go watch a scary movie. Its more fun to me. :D
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

Well, these all are must see: The Shining, Saw(s), August Underground(s), Nekromantik, Cube(s), Badtaste, Braindead, Romero's Dead series, Guinea Pig Devil's Expiriment and Flower of flesh and blood

August Undergrounds and Nekromantik are not for anyone. August undergrounds contain highly graphical murder, necrophilia and almost everything twisted. They are about serial killers on rampage. Nekromantik tells story of a couple. Yes, you quessed it, more necrophilia...Guinea Pig Devil's Expiriment is a movie which is about expiriment with a woman how much body can hold pain before dying. Flower Of Flesh And Blood is about man how slowly kils a woman while telling about his passion into it... Yes, I am sick when I watch movies like this...

Have seen the Cube films, mostly those go for the "blood and gore" category...
Also, wasn't Badtaste one of Peter Jackson's movie? I think I have seen that as well, but not 100% sure.

I think the problem would be to find those movies here, as what I gather from your description, those are more like underground movies which not many would like to see, and thus the movie rentals won't have them in the stock... :(

If you liked movie like that, then you must see Hostel if you haven't already.. Twisted movie, though not so scary... :D

These movies you recommend, they are more "blood and gore" type movies, rather than psychologic horror movies? If so, not sure if I'm going to like them, as I prefer more the later type, as the good horror movie makes you fear even after the movie has ended... and movies with only containing those "Boo!!" effects and lots of blood and gore just don't have that effect to me...

One horror I movie I especially liked was [REC].

It's filmed in a similar style to the Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield, so if you don't like that kind of thing, stay away.
