Gothic 2 - The Experiment quest (spoiler)

Post by Padawan »

How did you do it?

I've just started the game and played it, well, a bit. Didn't decide into which guild to join yet, but I would like to know some potion brewery. Who knows, maybe I will be able to brew my own beer and wine combination.
Anyway, in order to learn potion brewery I can complete either "The Experiment" quest, or "Constantinos herbs", or whatever the name is; meaning that I will work for Constantino, what I am not sure of.
So, I tried to do the Oblivion spell. One thing I noticed: even normal peasants fight quite well (or I fight thaaat bad). Never the less, when I bit them down, they refuse to talk with me. And yes, I did find one single woman in the bed (sounds nice, right), I fought her down (that sounds a bit nastier, yes), she refuses to speak with me. So far, so good. Than I casted this Oblivion spell onto her, right into her face. And she still refuses to speak with me! So, the spell does not work. Of course, the guy who gave the spell to me (can't remember the name) does not accept this as an answer.
Another try I did: in the moment he gave me the spell, I had two new entries in my quest book. First one with description of the quest, and the second one saying that this would be a perfect opportunity to try it. So I fought the same guy down. But he just says that I fight well, afterwards. And I can't even tell him (even after casting the spell) that it works. Because it doesn't. :(

How did you do it? (and yes, to put spoiler text in black was not as good idea as in some other forums here on banshee. sorry)

One thing I forgot to mention: I have already fought down that man in front of the tavern in harbor who wants money and makes problems and, hell, don't know the name. I lurked him away so that he was alone. He did beat me down, took my money and weapons, so I had to cast a fireball. And now, the poor bastard just lies on the floor. Dead, I guess. And he is not lying where I beated him, but on his original place (in front of the tavern). Casting Oblivion onto him makes no sense, since he is not mad at me. True, he doesn't speak to me, but he doesn't move neither. Or breathes, or, well, you get the picture.
Nice...

I usually do it on the person that gives you the quest. I just steal from his house, he attacks then once he is unconscious you have to cast the spell from the scroll (not once he gets up again). While he is unconscious you can also steal all his other scrolls and finish looting his house lol. Then when he finally gets up again you can talk to him and he won't remember that you have robbed him blind and beaten him up.

If you are having trouble early on with beating him up, try purchasing a sleep scroll. Cast it on him and when he falls asleep just keep beating him.

If you kill someone with a spell or arrow they are permanently dead. you have to use melee to knock them unconscious.

Edit: It is important to cast the spell on them while they are on the ground unconscious. If you do it when they get up again or if they are still standing then it won't work

I have had some problems with this quest as well. I had he best results when (at night) knocking down Constantino and using the Oblivion spell on him. Thusfar this has never failed me.
If life really had a meaning we would all be dead !!!

The best way to handle this (imo) is to talk to the guy on the bench next to Mato (first building on the left coming in the first gate from the start) he tells you about Valentino, then talk to Ingreus to get the quest wait in that little strip between Bospers shop (the BEST master to join) and the steps to the upper quarter at 4 am.
Valentino will come strolling by (get familar with the area you want to be in the alley, amap but closer to the open area he comes from, so the guards on the steps don't see you) then at 4am have your Oblivion spell already set to your chosen key, talk to him and then wack him, only using melee.
Then take his gold and key, comes handy when you sneak into his house later. :p
Then cast Oblivion and if it works he wil say "Oh my head" or somehting like that , just save first.

Return to the guy on the bench the next day, tell him and he gives you something you can bring to a bartender down by Constantino.

Always do all the masters quest then just say you will think about it and go join Bosper, this way you get all the xp, plus always ask each master for their approval to join another master even Bosper that is an extra 200 xp from each. :)

You can bring the guy back to life (at the docks) or anyone, there is an inhabit person (ie go into there body) thne hit the F8 button to fully heal them then turn to your body and hit the inhabit key again.
Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

I prefer to use them on the guy that asks you to do the experiment, then you can steal all of his other scrolls so you have loads of the things. You can then go and use another one on Valentino and Constantino :)

He wont get his actual good invetory until you complete the quest so, you really don't get that much, at least that I recall.

I guess it just depends on what chapter you doing it, I always do it in 1st chap when his inventory is nothing compaired to get 700xp and 200 gold from Valentino. :)
Maybe we have differnet version because his inventory is sucky till you complete the quest and he will give you all the Oblivion scrolls you want for FREE untill you complete the quest. ;)

I do Valentino as well though lol - I just do it on the quest giver first, steal all of his belongings in his house and his remaining scrolls then go and do Valentino :)

Right, me too I do Ingas as well but after he spawns his real inventory, such a fun game and so many ways to play thru. :)

I'm having trouble with this quest too. The Oblivion does indeed make people forget I punched 'em in the nose, but I must be doing something wrong because I can't convince Ignaz that it worked.

I tried it on Edda the fish soup lady. Knocked her down, cast oblivion. No good. I couldn't tell Ignaz that it worked. So the next time, I just puched her once, ran like hell until she wandered back to her cauldron and then oblivioned her from long range. Still no luck. Thierd thing I tried was to knock her down, wait for her to wake up and then cast the spell. That didn't work either.

Since then I've tried it on Moe, on Valentino and on Ignaz himself. Nothing.

So how do I get Ignaz to accept the quest is done and teach me to brew potions?

Cheers,
Rowdy Drunk
