Darkest Day or Shadows over Soubar?

Post by dragon wench »

I'm looking to have a fresh BG2 gaming experience, and since both The Darkest Day and Shadows over Soubar now have Weidu versions I'm wondering which to install.

If anyone has any experiences with either or both I'd really appreciate some information. :)

Also, I'm curious about which NPC mods, if any work well with these TDD and SoS.

Currently I'm leaning towards TDD, but I wanted to check here first :)

Cheers!

I have the same questions.

Anyone?

**btw, is Shadows Over Soubar still available to download anywhere? The below link comes up blank.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I've played Darkest Day and I can say it's a mod that depends greatly on which aspect of BG2 that you like. If you're really into the hack and slash aspect, it's a great mod. A lot of dungeons are made more difficult because of new/tougher creatures (there are bugbears in Irenicus' lair, and a wraith). There are a ton of new items and a few new stores. I have to say that the new spells they added aren't great overall though. Some of the NPCs are cool but they don't have nearly as much depth as some other weidu mods (Solaufein, for example). Although Kivan is now an Archer, and it's nice to have him back. :D I really like some of the new kits too, they're either very original or just old favorites (Anti-Paladin, anyone?). The only real problem I have is that the dungeons can be repetitive as it's basically just hack and slash all the way through until you get to a boss fight which may require some strategy. However, the quests take you to some interesting places (Neverwinter and Calimshan, for example). It's a fun mod but it's long (72 additional hours) and might get tedious for some people. Try it once, but I can't gauruntee it'll have much replay value.

I tried the Big Picture a while back, and hated it... It seemed mostly focused on scaling up the bad guys... But I didn't get very far with it (I hate tactics-like playing), so take my discouragement with a grain of salt.

And, I don't know which componant of the Big Picture did what, so I'm of even less help than that... Why did I even post?

I supposed to give Elvis this link:

There's no need for a choice. Spellhold Studios (linked in the previous post) has Weidu versions of both, and they are compatible.

The link doesn't work, at least with me.
My browser just comes up with an error:

MySQL ERROR:

Error Number: 1016

Description: Can't open file: 'cms_online_users.MYI' (errno: 145)

Query: SELECT * FROM cms_online_users WHERE date > 1150393157 AND weblog_id = '0' ORDER BY name

I've tried with IE and Firefox.
In fact I can't enter to any spellhold studios site coz of that error, Does anybody know an alternative place to get these mods? I'd really like to test them.

Hey, thanks for the link.

It looks promising.

Since I haven't played for a long while, I'm looking forward to seeing what these mods have to offer (if anything).
