is enchantment its all cracked up to be?

Post by lost in obliv' »

might be an obvious q, but i just wondering if there is any real benefit or point in enchanting as part of the game (apart from customising your character/fun element) i am a warrior level 30 something expert or master in major skills and having fun just roaming around locations and doing side/main missions.have discovered a large part of the game content have done lots of looting and found some great weapons (including magic and enchanted),and have complete sets of pretty much all armours, and i havent felt the need or desire to enchant anything as i am finding the difficulty about right, as i said have found lots of enchanted weapons which i just tend to sell on for gold. was using the umbra sword until i returned it to its owner and now rely on a nice daedric longsword which i find can cope with nicely with most enemies (i also have good destruction magic and restoration). also wouldnt enchanting just make the game a little easier for myself if i was to say put health absorb on my sword? i collect signil stones from the gates of oblivion which i have not put to any use yet, so i just wondered what anybody thought about the real use/ need for enchanting?

Enchanting can be very good. Not weapons, because you will find plenty of enchanted weapons. You also find enchanted armour and garments as well, of course, but it is rather nice to enchant stuff for yourself, because you get to choose the enchantment - though it has to be based on a spell you already have.
For example, it is useful to have an armour item enchanted to constant Water Walking, and another with Water Breathing. Yes, you can find such items, too, but if you do the Mage Guild Recommendation Quests you get to use the Enchantment 'altars' at the Arcane University which can get you enchanted items much sooner.
Also, if you have chosen to be a High Elf, with Apprentice Birth Sign, it is almost essential to enchant items to Absorb or Reflect Magic! Otherwise he will get cooked. ;)

Actually, the best use I've found for Enchanting is (spoiler blacked out):
Enchanting multitudinous rings and amulets of various kinds with various effects that can be combined in various ways to enhance your abilities to suit the moment. Their weight is negligible, but their combined power can be very, umm, "persuasive".

I agree

I found, in my travels, that (ESPECIALLY) if you have "Armourer" as a Major skill, you want to keep everything you equip NON-enchanted (except jewelry of course, because it can't be damaged). This should only apply to the beginning levels, since as you advance as an "Armourer", once you reach Journeyman, you will be able to repair enchanted items. However, if you decide to enchant a weapon, keep in mind that the quality of the weapon and power of the enchantment (ie. Skill level of spell, how powerful the stone is, etc) is essential! This is because just because a weapon may have 1000 charges on it, doesn't mean it will have 1000 uses! Depending on what it can do, depends on the number of charges/use.

So in conclusion, I have found that enchanting the armor, especially jewelry, just as Fljotsdale and yrthwyndandfyre said, because it usually has a "constant effect", and does not require a recharge. ...That is unless it's a ring that can shoot out bolts of lightning, and the sort... :)

Anywho, Good luck and Good hunting!
