I dunno if it's just me... but imo, Oblivion has one major failing: the Main Quest seems to be almost totally divorced from the rest of the game. It's as though one team did the Main Quest, and another team did all the rest, with a few linking bits of dialogue and effects where needed. You don't actually NEED to do the Main Quest at all to feel very satisfied with all the achievements of the Guild Quests, and the various and plentiful other quests and free dungeons, etc.
Does anyone else feel that Oblivion is almost like 2 games cobbled together into one? Or am I just being picky?

No, you're not. I felt the same thing. But generally I have quite a few problems with the story line in Obl.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.
I agree that it's disconnected, but I don't think I would call it a failing. You can have fun with this game and completely ignore the MQ, or use the side quests and all to build up your character to do the MQ. It's entirely up to you, and I like that a lot better than being stuck with a completely linear, scripted course of action.
Intertwining
I dont even thin it would be that hard to do (but im not a game designer so i dont know
) but you could have to get so far in the MQ before a FG quest opens becasue something happened in the MQ line that the fighters guild needs to clean up or somethign like that. Just an idea

Actually, yeah. I think so. If you consider it carefully, the only reason the side quests were tied to the main quest in MorrowWind was because the main quest required you to level up. You needed the side-quests to get enough experience, ability, and equipment to finish the main quest, otherwise you were dead. You needed specific items to finish the main quest, had to be sufficiently powerful, and do the right things. Aside from that linkage, the main quest is MW was just as divorced. If you cheat-code yourself the things you need and the levels you require to finish the main quest in MW, you can do it in a night, more than likely.
