Summons staying with you

Post by fable »

It's been a while since I've tried a summons. For the most part, companion AI is braindead, but as I'm about to enter a dangerous area, I thought I'd give it a try. My question is simple: will a summoned creature stay with you if you change cells, moving into an adjoining room that has to load separately?

Yes, as long as they live that long they can go with you any where you are travelling normally (walking, levitating, swimming etc.). They won't follow you if you teleport anywhere such as recall or going to mournhould.

p.s. they may follow you if you take a ship somewhere

So just to be certain I understand you, if you go through a door that's the activator point for loading another cell, the creature will be with me on the other side?

On a related note,
can you enchant something CE with a summons, in effect keeping the creature with you as long as the item is equipped?

yes
It would act like bound armor/weapon and stay with you till either of you died and it would follow you anywhere you went without a spell

Correct.

I edited such a robe into the game. I had to re-equip each time...

Hmmm...
I added a mod that allows me to summon bears and the like.... I think my ranger would like to have a pet Grizzly if it's doable

Yes, the Storm Atronach (named Sparky) that I summoned did travel with me when I confronted Arkay's final challenge. He wasn't much help in the killing department, frankly, but at least he delayed several of my attackers and enabled me to focus on the most important threat.

Thanks for the help, all. :)

PS: DW, a bear sounds perfect for your needs. You might also want to check out Scripted Spells, a mod that lets you (among other things) change into a host of creatures, including various bears, bats, etc.

lol! Scripted spells is already installed. :D I haven't yet tried either that or Animal Summoning; I'm only Level Four and my Conjuration and Alteration skills are at 15 apiece. I do have Emma's and Grumpy's wolf companion though.... He's fun, but I wish his name were something other than "Spot." I keep wanting to ask him to fetch my morning copy of the Daily Balmora Times. :p

Anyway *cough* :D
Glad the summons worked out for you. I'm really hoping that the summoning mod will allow me to create a CE Grizzly or Snow Bear, because that would be perfect.
