Roleplaying questions
I know there isn't a right/wrong way to do certain things or when it comes to exploring areas (I have a few ideas as to why my character would go to certain locations in certain chapters), but having gotten frustrated with my Paladin I quit playing him (couldn't stand being LG). However, I started to regret it and decided to start him up again from scratch and deal with the challenge, adhereing to stricter RP guidlines for myself.
1) Imoen is restricted to detecting and disarming traps as a thief. Lockpicking only if we need to get to some kind of villain or required to advance the story. No pickpocketing at all.
2) No picking up items off 'innocent' NPC corpses, from people's houses/world objects.
3) All excess money goes to temples (I wish Paladins got additional reward refusal dialogue options >.<).
4) No pre-buffing before a fight unless my character would see it coming. Also, only Imoen can go ahead and scout (no setting up a mage to get a fireball in at the start of a fight to pull enemies)
5) Not using any 'spoiler' items (hidden objects in area maps)
Any others that come to mind?
Edit: So sorry about the multiple posts! I kept getting a technical error but I guess it was still posting :/

Hello, welcome to Gamebanshee.
I took the liberty to remove the duplicate threads, and change the threadtitle to something more fitting the question.
It is actually a nice idea to roleplay a paladin like that ,although I personally would have another devinition of "exess money" then most temple owners.
It is tobad that the game doesn't reward you as much for it as i would like to see.
You could walk around with certain buffs in "hostile territory", and if you are teamed with a ranger you can say he detects the tracks of the enemy's ahead (an ability rangers get in Baldur's Gate2 or it's expension)

I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
Excellent ideas.
And thank you for cleaning up those posts. I didn't wanna look like some kind of weirdo spammer. >.>
I've set up his stats with intention of only aquiring the Tome of Constitution at some point in the game (18 str, 14 dex, 17 con, 11 int, 12 wis, 18 cha). I reckon they'll end up in that particular area after returning to Beregost from the Nashkel Mines when they're "weeding out the bandits" before heading to their main camp. My PC would decide that the "hidden treasure" would be better off donated to charity, so they search for it for themselves instead of taking Ms. Chaotic Neutral Safana along (since by this point I'll already have Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc & Dynaheir anyway).
EDIT: Thought of another good one: Paladin's and their party can only sleep in rooms of Peasant quality.

About that pick-pocketing...
Imoen is a relatively sneaky, light-fingered girl... She has spoken to the PC about pick pocketing the monks at candlekeep so stealing is not beneath her. Just because the Paladin don't want ther stealing doesn't mean she won't steal. I try to play my NPCs as though they are my travelling companions, not my lackeys. They are not there to be ordered about by the protagonist. I played with a Paladin, too and she stole things but the things she stole she kept to herself as if my paladin didn't know.
Imoen should have been a Kender.....:mischief:

One thing i would like to give a try someday is playing, and thus acting like a paladin.
I see paladins as a force of good, but definatly not as your local guard/adventurer/handyman.
You want those spiders killed in your basement? Hire some adventurers, but don't ask the paladin.
Someone stole your sword? Call the guards.
Need help hunting wyverns? Don't look at me(/tyr) for help
But that necromancer who is making the traderoutes unsafe thats something i might be intrested in, if i have the time between fighting an even bigger evil.

In my opinion the best paladin ever created was actually a comic book super hero....Captain America (if he was religious). Aside from him, probablt Sturm Brightblade from Dragonlance but he was a bit high-strung. The three most difficult alignments to maintain (LG, N, CN) can be observed in Marvel Comics...Captain America/LG, The Punisher/CN(with *slightly* good tendencies), and The Watcher/N. But these are just my views and someone else may see things completely different

Hello again. It's been awhile since I made this thread, but I had a similar RP question and figured I would just ask here instead of making an entirely new one.
Another class I've been wondering about is the monk (with BGTutu). I've heard people say it wouldn't make sense due to there being no monk order in Candlekeep, but there are monks already there and the environment would certainly foster a very enlightened, structured mindset.
I'm starting to get bored with the typical sword & board gameplay (in regards to my PC) so I'm really looking to spice things up without going too far afield.

I think that your listing is a bit too strict.
After all, how is your Paladin going to know what Imoen does while he sleeps or while he is walking away thus has his back facing them?
I doubt that Paladins give *all* their money to the church. They are in the service of the church but they also know that equipment needs to be purchased and certain people need to be paid for information and what not.
It is your game though so definitely play it how you want.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.
I think Candlekeep is a wonderful background for a monk. Its classes like the druid and ranger that I don't quite think fit with someone being raised in a friggin library...
See that's exactly how I feel. It also kind of make sense that since monks focus on physical, mental & spiritual balance Gorion would have had the protagonist spend some time with the other monks in the keep as part of his studies.
He had to know that the kid couldn't hide in Candlekeep forever, and the Bhaal essence would come into play eventually... why not give him the tools he needs to combat it effectively when that time comes.

No harder than keeping a lvl1 mage alive...all you gotta do is make a "bee-line" for the friendly arm inn and pick up Jaheira and that sissy Khalid. Then go pick up Minsc or Garrick or both.
I remember trying to keep mages alive playing P'n'P Dungeons and dragons...ugh

One of the main problems I see with a monk in BG1 is the fact that he'll have to use a weapon throughout the game instead of his fists (and even then only against certain enemies) since his fists won't be considered +1 until level 9. On the other hand, he will get that access to certain class abilities throughout the course of the game to compensate for that.
Of course, it'll be my first run through BG1/TotSC with a monk, so I could come back to what I just typed someday and laugh at my naivety.
