Yup ive seen these kind of questions before, some of these will show up on the Guilds list on your stats.
The Blades = Can be found after doing some of the Main Quest. Dont know if shows up as a joined guild. Has no benefit to the player. They are those people at the start with the Emperor. Cannot be joined like the Fighters Guild etc.
The Order of the Virtuous Blood = Can be found inside the Imperial City somewhere, they are a group of Vampire Hunters. Once you have done the quest it will show up as a joined guild. Has no benefit to the player.
Knights of the White Stallion = Just you and a female Orc are the knights. Can be found after doing a side quest. It is mainly just a lodge next to the river and serves no purpose except to rest in. This quest is given by one of the Counts or Countess', but I cant remember who or where.
Knights of the Thorn = Dont know right now, will return when I have seen them ingame.
Order of the Dragon = Dont know right now, will return when I have seen them ingame.
Hope that helped
Mythic Dawn = Can be found right at the start of the game. They are those red clothed people who attack you and your allies. I believe they appear later aswell. Cannot be joined, is an evil faction.

*** Spoilers ***
1) The Blades?
Personal spies and counterintelligence agents for the emperor. You join them in Morrowwind, I don't know if you can in Oblivion.
2) The Order of the Virtuous Blood?
As noted, a group of vampire hunters in the Imperial City. You get a quest to hunt down a so-called 'vampire' who turns out to be innocent, and you get indoctrinated when you find the vampire that is actually in the order.
3) Knights of the White Stallion?
As noted, just you and an Orc after you clean up a bunch of bandits down in Lleywyn for the count.
4) Knights of the Thorn?
A bunch of hot-heads lead by a count's son that charge into an Oblivion Gate. You get the quest to rescue them. I failed to rescue them, but returning the kid's ring to his father gets the quest done.
5) Order of the Dragon?
After you finish the main quest, you are given the order of the Dragon. It is the highest honor in the Empire. You get some special Armor, but that's about it.
6) Mythic Dawn?
The bunch of malcontents that killed the Emperor. They want to bring about the end of the world by virtue of bringing back Dagoth Ur. Eventually, you get to kill all of them.

On the contrary, {near the beginning of the main quest!} I found that as long as you haven't done anything *bad*, Jauffre will invite you to be the order of the Blades. If you've done ANYthing (i.e.: Stealing, kill innocent, etc) that will be looked down upon, he won't bring it up, nor will it come up in any conversation. I found this out very early in the game. I went through it three times, first time after stealing a horse. Since you can't use your "persuasion" on Jauffre, he'll either always hate you, or love you. But since I did that part early, and I'm quite far in the main quest now, I'm not sure if it's possible to join the Blades later (as in you ticked Jauffre off earlier, went out did alot of good things to redeem yourself, and came back to try again). When he asks you to join, he does it kinda in the middle of a conversation. It doesn't come up as a chance for *you to ask him*, because...as I said...*he asks YOU*. Benefits to joining the Blades, is that you have access to a FULL suit of thier (heavy) armor (which is VERY nice to kinda start the game out with). Also, thier weapons are lying all over the place. Don't think about selling everything you pick up here, because the armor doesn't sell for squat. The weapons, however, sell for a pretty penny. WIth that aside, you also have FREE lodging, AND if you walk out front during the day, you'll see two guys "sparring" (practice fighting). If you sit and watch them fight, after several minutes, you'll receive two points to Blade and Block!! Keep in mind, you can only do this once! I hope this helps most of you out there. Keep in touch, happy hunting, and good luck!

After you complete the quest, the order will pay you 250 gold for each sample of vampire dust you bring to them. Better than the going rate at the markets but maybe not good enough to sell them since the dust has unique alchemical properties.

They only fork over the dough for the heavy vampire dust. The stuff that weights 0.2, not the stuff that weights 0.1.
