Heart of Fury - big question!!!

Post by Karina »

Hey, so I finished the final battle in normal mode and then set it to heart of fury mode, started a new game, and imported all of my old characters. Problem is -- all their bags of holding and scroll cases and gem bags and potion boxes disappeared from their inventories???????

Is this just to me? What do you do about it? I get the feeling it doesn't let you save after the final battle, basically, so I'm betting I didn't even get to keep the xp from the final battle, or am I wrong? And how come those containers disappeared, with all of their contents?

*Is contemplating re-doing the final battle with all her good equipment in her inventory, outside of the bags and scroll cases so they don't get lost....*

It's not really important if you get extra XP for the final, this will only make the time you get 0 fighting XP in HoF longer.
Doesn't the game create an autosave after the final battle ?

The bag content thing is like in IWD1, you have to live with it.
You could export your characters several times, each time with some other items taken from the bags into the inventory and reimport the characters into your HoF game several times to get the items.
But I don't think it's worth the trouble.
Some people even start HoF mode with unequipped level1 characters, so you could do with just about 200 item slots.

Another Method

As kmonster mentioned, the game is set up so that all "containers" and "quest items" (like the very handy 'periaph of wound closure") disappear when the game exports characters. The game does indeed autosave just before you descend from the roof for the final battle and that is when it "autoexports" the characters.
But another option would be export your characters after the final battle but BEFORE you take steps that lead out, and thus ending the game. You can simply hit the space bar to pause the game. Then look through each character's inventory and ditch any containers or quest items, checking each of course for anything you want to hold onto for HOF.
I had a number of items, mostly potions and buffing scrolls, I had been saving for the final fight. I didn't want to eat up slots in which I could carry other stuff to be sold when I began HOF. So I carried enough containers down from the roof to hold the items. After the final battle I paused, looted the bodies there (some really good stuff for selling in HOF) and ditched the rest of my containers and non-transfering items (the periaph, sigh). I filled every available slot (don't forget that there are additional weapons/shield slot up above) and then exported my characters. After that I exited and ended the game. I was able to hang on to "just about" everything except some potions and a few minor healing/low level cleric scrolls.
