I suspect it does Fable. I'm generally very big on hoarding my spells. Don't know why, but if I have a choice between using some spells and not, I always save them. The end result of this is, I usually let me meleers do the fighting, and only pitch in with spells if there looks like an actual danger. So for Cernd and Korgan, rack up at least 30 or 40 thugs killed during area transitions alone.
The other thing is that at the moment, I honestly don't have very great spells. Fireball, Cone of Cold, and all those have the unfortunate sideeffect of beating up my own party more often then not, so I pretty much use Magic Missile and Fire Arrows exclusively (Although I tend to use Haste and Edwins Summon Earth Elemental a fair bit. That thing is HUGE). I just hit Level Six Spells, so I'm hoping that Chain Lightning may change that. Although I doubt much will seriously change till I get Abi Dalzims and Wail of the Banshee. (They're both party-friendly, correct?)
Right now I'm trying to figure out what to do with weapon proficiencies as far as Korgan is concerned. I was planning on having him dual wield axes, but looking around Gamefaqs, there was a strong suggestion to have him use an Axe and shield. Whats the best thing to do with him? I know I'll use axes, since that many proficiency points are a waste to not use, but which of the styles? Viconia is going to go Crom Faeyr and a shield, thats my feeling. And I'll give Sarevok some nice two hander when he joins up, (Silver Sword I'm thinking). But still not sure as to what to do with Korgan.
About the gloves of Dex, which quest? I was pretty sure I scoured the place not long ago. Oh well, it can wait.

How to distribute the profiency points depends on what you exspect from Korgan:
a) If you want to use him as defensive tank, have him wear a shield.
Profiency in shield style isn't very useful however.
This way you can also switch to a throwing weapon without entering the inventory.
This is great if you want to keep the enemies busy while your mages finish them off. But you have already Cernd for this.
b) If you want him to be as deadly as possible in melee than have him dualwield. An off-hand weapon which increases the main hand attacks (Kundane,Belm) will even cause more damage than dualwielding axes. You'll do more than 50 percent extra damage this way compared to using a shield, for me this is worth more than a few AC points.
More than ++ in dualwield isn't neccessary for this, even profiency in the off-hand weapon isn't required.
AC -3 is quite good, if you have Viconia cast "Protection from Evil 10'" it decreases to -5 which is already perfect against monsters with a thac0 of 15 or worse. And you'll probably find equipment to improve this even further.

So in terms of abilities, theres no actual difference? Good. I'm doing the quest for Haer'Dalis right at the moment, and grabbed Kundane. After reading the description, I began to wonder if I DO in fact need to go and buy back Belm for Ribald. Ah well, good enough. Thanks for the assisstance.
Edit: Speaking of which, I found the Melodic Armor, and geuss what? Jan can't wear it. I'm going to try and get some Elven Chain Mail for him. Meh, I'm running out of good robes to hand out.

Don't underestimate Jan's armor. 25 percent damage resistance is like +33 percent HP. And if you already have damage resistance (because of spells or items) this helps even more. If he turns into a rat with the cloak of the sewers for example he gets even healed by physical hits.
Let him use bracers or a spell.

I suspect I won't worry about it. Even though his AC is the most miserable by far of all my characters, (five), he actually seems to die the least.
The Characters that die the most are Cernd and Korgan, since they're usually in melee, followed closely by Viconia, though I take more care around her. (if Cernd or Korgi die, or even both, I can raise them easily. Raising Viconia is more difficult, so I usually pull her out of combat if she is getting damaged.)
Edwin and Jan never die. Between Stoneskin, (which has an INSANELY fast cast time) and Mirror Image, they seem to be very safe. Damien tends to get targeted more, I dont know why.

Jan's armor is okay, but elven chain is better IMO. You can get it from the Alibakkar guy in the "Dueling Families of Trademeet" quest if you kill him.
As for Resurection...KEEP VICONIA ALIVE. If you're not an elf, I'm assuming you're romancing her. If she dies at an early stage of the romance it will break off and die FOREVER.
As for weapons...Giving Belm+2 to Korgan in the offhand is a good Idea. I used to think this was a dirtbag weapon with crappy abilities, but the extra attack is INCREDIBLY useful. If you have Axe of the Unyielding in the main hand and Belm in the offhand, you will have 4 attacks per round, and have more hits in a shorter time, and possibly the decapitation. With my thief, I'm using Adjatha the Drinker and Belm and every time I hit, I heal. It is so useful
I'm not sure but maybe the abilities from Kundane and Belm are cumulaitve??? That would be so sweet, I have to buy back Kundane from Ribald to test that.

I thought this thread had died, but geuss not, so heres the update:
I'm nearly on my way to chapter Four. I've finished Bodhi's quests, done virtually everything, all I have left is the Twisted Rune, Kangaxx, and the Illithids in the sewers. Relevant points are as follows:
My casters have actually started to earn their pay now that they have level six and seven spells. Edwin and his Death Spell are excellent for clearing out bunchs of lower level enemies, and Damien's Finger of Death killed Firkraag in one hit, (I pumped about three lower resistances and a Greater Malison into him first, but thats beside the point.)
Cernd seems to have caught up with Korgan, (who is dual wielding Frostreaver and Belm) in terms of kills. Korgan is wearing Red dragon armor and has an AC of -10, whereas Cernd has a single ring of protection and is -13! in wolf form. Rocks.
Jan has acquired the Elven Chainmail +1 off of the cold corpse of Aran Linvail, which means his AC is now a respectable -1. Not great, but workable.
Viconia meanwhile has grabbed a Dragon Slayer shield and Guantlets of Ogre Strength, and is actually quite tough. AC -8, actually a decent tank. Once she whips out the Mace of Disruption +2, though, she just tears through undead. Soloed Firkraags vampires (7-8 of them) all on her own.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enough gloating. I don't know about Belm and Kundane, but I think that even if that works, there might be some problems there. For one thing, theres an upper limit on the number of attacks reachable (10, which means five and Imp Haste is the max needed.) More importantly though, they're both only +2 weapons, and aside from the speed, not even that great. No debilitation, no bonus damage.
During what time period is Viconia vulnerable to that death thing? It seems to be progressing normally, (i.e. she slept with me and is currently insulting me in every way she can think off.... women....), and it's fairly late, Lovetalk 19 or so. I actually was an elf.... didn't realize they couldn't have romances with Viconia, so I quietly shadowkeepered myself to a half elf.
Romances continue normally in chapters four and five, correct? I don't have to wait till I'm back in Amn to continue them?
Other then that, all I can say is: I forgot how much fun this game is. (though I really wish they upped the movement speed so I didn't have to consta-haste myself...).

LOL, I'm on my way to Chapter 4 as well, for the...fifth time ever. Except I did the Mind Flayers in the Sewers. That took a hell of a lot of mini skeletons(I was like lvl 12), damn Ulitharids . Go try this...use animate dead until you have 5 skeletons, haste them, open the door for them, send 'em in and hope they win. They wont, so repeat, rest if you need to. It takes a while to do.
About Belm/Kundane...Sure, the Thac0 sucks, no damage bonuses too. But that's not the point of these weapons. The point is to increase the numpber of attacks in the main hand. Say you had a weapon like Adjatha the Drinker in the main hand(user gets 1 hit point with each hit). If you have an extra attack, you will be hitting quite frequently with it, and healing yourself at the same time. Same if you had AOTU+5(figure it out, it's an axe ). You would get 3-4 attacks per round, and assuming you hit with all of those attacks, in a little more than 2 rounds, you would get at least 1 decapitation.
About the romance...it slows down through chapters 4-5. I think this is the only time when you can actually have Viccy die and still have the romance. Check the Variables, if it still says VICONIAROMANCEACTIVE 1 or 2 then your romance is still going. There is only 1 romance convo in the Underdark with Viconia, after you sleep with some Drow hoe.
About AC...That is much better. I was worried for a second there. Korgan is now officially dubbed a Tank. And yeah, Cernd is a tank as well. He had roughly 15% of the kills my last go-through. I had 31%(Wizard Slayer), Minsc had 26%, and the rest was split between Viconia, Jan, and Imoen.

Well, most of my characters are around level 14-16. (Viconia is 16), so after getting Cernds Brain eaten twice, I basically just turned off AI, position my guys in the corridor, summoned five skeleton warriors in front, and opened the door with an invisible gnome. Then just cast Death Spells until they fall. Not actually very difficult with the skeleton warriors.
Kangaxx on the other hand.... is making me tear my hair out.
I have what I consider to be a nice, powerful party. Two level fourteen mages, a level sixteen cleric, a level sixteen fighter, a level fifteen druid and 10/11 thief/mage. And that bloody demilich is wiping the floor with me.
I can kill the lich form with relative ease. cast true sight, khelbens warding whip, breach, and then sic Viconia with the Mace of Disruption and Cernd with his claws. Jan has a tendency to die to the death spell, (what save is that and how do I buff it up?) but I have two rods of ressurection, so thats not a problem. The moment I get the demilich however, BAM, half my team is imprisoned.
I've tried several tactics so far, and they don't seem to be working. First I tried buffing up and summoning several skeleton warriors to keep the heat down. Problem, Kang the Lich immediatly death spells them, taking out all my summons and Jan. scratch that.
I've tried improved invis, Kang always time stops and casts true sight at some point in the battle. no go.
I tried the Ring of the Ram. Beat up the demilich quite nicely, but not enough to kill him. Then he imprisons everyone.
I tried to use the ring in conjunction with about a dozen skull traps. No go. Looks like he's immune to them.
Just finished the fourth or fifth battle and I gave up for the moment. I'm going to see what the Game Banshee anti-Lich strategy says.
by the way, is there any decently lasting spell that protects against imprisonment, (i.e. ten turns or so).

Counter for Imprisonment...Spell Immunity:Abjuration. I say cast this with a Mage followed by Tensors Transformation and get the rest of your party out of there. Still, you need a +4 weapon or better to hit him. He pissed me off too.
Or, wait until chapter 6, the slayer is immune to imprison.

Kangaxx the DL is vulnerable to the IMoD.
You can have Jan pickpocket his ring before he turns hostile, this is his only treasure anyway. If you don't need a second one you can just run away afterwards and let Kangaxx have fun himself in the city.
A truly evil act .
I had Jan polymorph into slime with the spell and had Kangaxx waste his spells on 100 percent immune Jan-slime.
When the spells were gone Jan ran out of sight and the party summoned and buffed 3 fire elementals. They beat the remaining life out of Kangaxx alone with ease. The demilich can't imprison if he is hit fast enough.

Well Kangaxx is dead, and in a decidedly anti-climactic fashion...
Viconia got a lucky hit on him with the Mace of Disruption and he failed to save. Still managed to imprison Edwin, had to run around all of Amn looking for a Freedom Scroll. Finally gave up and consoled on in.
Somehow, that battle simply wasn't enjoyable. The Demilich was impossible to hit, but all it did was imprison everyone. Effective yes, varied, no. The Lich was more interesting to defeat, with all of it's spell protections and different spells.
--------------------------------------------------
Now I'm off to fight Shangalar and Company, this should be more intriguing. And then, BRYNNLAW!

Agreed, to an extent. I think that all liches are boring and easy, but the 2 demiliches are just boring and you need +4 weapons or better. BTW congrats on your extreme luck. I once got a Decap on the Green Dragon in Watchers Keep with Minsc and the AOTU+5. I would ave beaten it easily anyways, though it saved me a minute or less. Dragons suck.
Anyways, in case you didn't know, there aren't really any big challenges in Chapter4/5. If you want a suggestion, summon a Modrekanians Sword, Death Spell it, and repeat. Pick up the item it drops, and get one for each party member. You'll need them. It's the Greenstone Amulet, and it protects from Mind Flayer's psyonics (hint hint).
Well that's it for now, just ask if you have another question, unless it's about the Rune, ask. I just got lucky there *shrugs*.
EDIT: One question. What difficulty are you playing on?
Viconia got a lucky hit on him with the Mace of Disruption and he failed to save. Still managed to imprison Edwin, had to run around all of Amn looking for a Freedom Scroll. Finally gave up and consoled on in.
Somehow, that battle simply wasn't enjoyable. The Demilich was impossible to hit, but all it did was imprison everyone. Effective yes, varied, no. The Lich was more interesting to defeat, with all of it's spell protections and different spells.

Now I'm off to fight Shangalar and Company, this should be more intriguing. And then, BRYNNLAW![/QUOTE]

I'm playing on Core Rules. I'm thinking of upping that one level since I did everything possible in Ch. 2, at least until I return to Amn.
I've killed Shangalar, wasn't particularly difficult. (Mace of Disruption). The Mage got killed by her own pit fiend, and Vampires are suprisingly vulnerable to Sunfire (Love that spell). The Beholder just got mobbed by a werewolf and a homicidal (beholder-cidal?) dwarf.
Quite refreshing after flailing away at Kangy.
Anyway, I'm at Brynnlaw right now, wandering about.

When the Armageddon is upon us and Fenris breaks his chains, then Tiamat shall rise up again and devour all life!
