Khalid's tutu proficiencies

Khalid's tutu proficiencies

I recently started a new BGI game and decided to give tutu and BG1_NPC project a try. And I have to say, at this early stage, I was a little disappointed to find that Khalid's proficiency points had been put into bastard swords and 2 weapon fighting?

Firstly, I don't really see Khalid as the sort to go wading into the fray swinging two big swords about like a madman. Also, I am pretty sure in his portrait you can see him wielding a shield.

And secondly, though less importantly, bastard sword's is a bit of a gimped choice as there are not many useful ones in the game. Long swords would have been far more helpful as he would have had a better selection.

I would now have to waste all the proficiency points he gains as of now to get him to the point where I believe he should be, and he still would not be able to master any of the weapons or styles. (Unless anybody knows of a way I can alter them in game :D ).

I apologise for my little rant, and I know I'm being a little tedious but it just struck me as a little unusual and I am not sure why the developers (who put in a lot of hard, and appreciated, work) saw fit to do it.

Also, if I can tag on a little question (so it's not all moaning, coz I am really still enjoying the game, especially the increased NPC interactions) but is it worth downloading the BG2 tweak pack to add a few little extras to the game on my play through?
My torment is that there is no sequel to Torment! :(

I would use an editor to move his proficiency points to Long Sword.

With weapon styles it can be very upseting in tutu when you first get a character. Coran has **in two handed sword. So he can't backstab even though he is a fighter/Theif. And By the time you get him I think he will only get one more proficiency point.
:) Once again time to give someone the boot to make room for Coran. LOL :)

Kinda makes you wonder how they decided it. Also noticed that Monty uses sword and shield style when I would have thought him suited to something different. Can't really see a sneaky thief creeping around with a shield?

I've edited Khalid's with SK, and am wondering what to do with Monty's. Anybody think whether 2 weapon or single weapon style would suit him best?

I'd say Single Weapon Style for Montaron. You find him with one short sword, with studded leather armor and a couple of potions (I think).

I read in a couple of walkthroughs that these are Monty's starting weapon proficiencies, depending on what level you are when you first meet him:

Montaron (fighter/thief):
Lv1/1 & 1/2 Small Sword++ Missile Weapons++
Lv3/4 Small Sword++ Missile Weapons++ Axe+
Lv5/6 Small Sword++ Missile Weapons++ Axe++

The axe proficiency is a tough one to figure out, since I always thought thieves (even multi-classed) were not allowed to use axes. (?) It is so aggravating, and disturbing-to-my-demeanor!
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

It's not the only proficiency-deficiency in BG1. IIRC Safana comes with a + in spears.

Fighter/thieves can use any weapon figthters can use (they have no religious reason like priests to limit their choice), but they can only backstab with weapons a pure thief could use.

The correct Tutu profiencies for Montaron would be ++ in short swords and in slings, like in the original.
With this combination he could wear a shield without penalty, I guess that's why profiency points were wasted for sword and shield style.

Ah yes, my mistake.

Another oddity is Quayle having a long sword prof, if the "level 4/3" version of Quayle is encountered. It seems almost as if Quayle's class was changed at some point, but his profs not updated.
