Can't Steal

I don't know why but for some reason I am unable to use the Steal expresson to take things from teh shops even tho its an options.. What am I doing wrong?

to steal,you need to make sure no one sees you,and you have to leave the button down.

Less valuable items take less time to steal and more valuable items takes longer to steal...

doesn't make much sense to me. Shouldn't it be heavier/larger items are harder to steal? Those augment things don't look very hard to steal

yeah but,in the game the more valuable the item the longer it takes to steal it

Hello.

Now that there is a thread about stealing I have no need to post one...
My question is: How can I enter a shop without making the bell ring?
I pick the lock of the barber shop in Bowerstone South, nobody sees me...
I proceed into the house while sneaking but the bell rings... The owner runs out. I got Guile level 6, or must I make the bell ring then exit the shop pretending it wasn't me a couple of times until the owner thinks the bell is broken and doesn't bother investigating anymore when it rings?

Well i tell how to steal by step by step :

-make sure u have good guile

1 . go to a house possibly a shop
2 . Sneak / be quiet / unnnoticed , mainly be sure that u are untetected
3 . then go near an item u want to steal
4 . Threre shoul show up the "steal" expression and if not : obtain it from character menu
5 . Then If u see then item glowing blue that its selected just hold on the "steal" expression (hold on = Keep the button on) and wait until the stealing time goes out.

Yes...
I already know how to steal (when you get your guile to level 3 and the stealing option becomes availible you get instructed how to preform the robbery).
My original question is: How to get inside a shop without making the bell ring (the bell rings whenever you enter).
I have already stolen a couple of things but i've done that at night at Heros' guild (that shopkeeper tends to look away for a long time).
I tried to enter the other shops in the game during night, while sneaking and with guile level 7, and still I rang the bell and the owner came downstairs and I got caught for threspassing.
I tried that in Oakvale where the shopkeeper doesn't sleep in his shop, I entered and the bell rang, a guard came to investigate and I got caught for threspassing!
So how do you ENTER a shop without ringing the bell?

Yes Matt... I willt ry to bribe the guard, even though I think more then one guards can hear the bell ring...
As for Skorm Himself:
I pick the lock on the door, it opens, I go through the door and THEN I ring the bell... I know how to steal and I know how to pick locks I just don't know how to prevent that *censored* bell from ringing every time I enter!

Oh and one last thing: You get the 'Pick Lock' expression on guile level 6... Not level 7.

Yea at lvl 6 i remembered that guile's max is 7 but just noticed cos my new charcter has guile maxed >D

im brilliant at the theving... look at your map, if the eye has a number in it, some1 can see you. you cant steal when someones watching you, and people can look through the windows, its a gd idear 2 pay a guard 2 go 4 a break, my guiles 7!

Everybody already knows that... It has been said multiple times during different posts.
The only thing that remains a mystery is how you get into a shop without actually making the bell ring?
Sneaking? Guess again, because I had Guile level 7 and I sneak and the bell still rings!
And I know you can bribe all the guards and then kill the villager that comes running down but I want to hear a way how you can do it clean... Without any blood.
And i still haven't found the anwser.

go to oakvale there is a great place to practice ..
Use lockpick on the door and sneak in ( dont bribe the guard ) mostly when u sneak the bell wont make a sound...here it doesnt
If it does (somtimes that happens to me to ) u need to hide behind the door for a incomming guard after a while the villager will leave..
Or the door closes so u need to lockpick again to get out
Go to bed or something and the gaurd wont notice u ( Somehow )

Or u should find shops without villagers living in it...

it never rings on me.... ive stolen all the hair cuts in barbers shop n ive stole some books from the teacher i gave books to but all the houses shops ive been in ive never had a bel ring but maybe its cuz i always sneak

Why is no one actually reading the question? Why is everyone giving him the same advice over, an' over, an' over again?!

If no one will tackle this, I will. Okay! To steal from the barber shop in Barrowstone South you must...

Marry her. That's right, you need to get her out of her shop an' marry her. Get her to your place for the night, an' then bribe the guard that patrols the area. The latter will take some timing to get down (bribing the guard will buy you only two minutes of time to get your butt in gear an' rob the place before he starts getting all guardly again), but with practice you'll yet succeed at the heist.
But how do you marry her? When you flirt an' then offer her the ring an' her heart turns gold... you interact and you go straight to trading as usual... so how?
You hang around her shop just as it is about to close. Eventually, like all traders, you can interact with her like normal women an' if she has a golden heart above her head, you'll be able to marry her just as she is starting to close up her shop.

Now then, that is a lot of work for a few haircuts, but I'm assuming that you're desperate for a new style.

some other way is to give the shopkeeper lots of beers they will get drunk and ull B able to steal it right under his/her nose as long as her back is turned to u... thats how i robbed the barber.... on brought day light...(when u do get cought By her shell stop u from steeling but she wont call the guards... if u gave her enough beers )
And the armory in oakvale to... and some other shop in snowspire village
Even the guilds shop isnt protected against that
