i have been looking for hours to find out a way to turn off the blackwood company Hist Sap Machine on the quest "Hist Sap". plz help me

spoilerTake the long pole you find in the room and jam it into the gears. Took me a while too since that type of object manipulation is not in the rest of the game.

This quest took a while for me to figure out as well.

First I tried to use the grab button to place the poles/pipes in the machine manually. I must have spent a good 10 minutes or so trying to get a right angle on the poles/pipes and to have them stuck in the gears. After some time I tried activating the machine directly (accidentally perhaps even). Next thing I knew, the pole/pipe was automatically placed in the right spot.[end spoiler]
