Most fun
What was the way you people had the most fun playing through the game? With NPC's, with your own party, soloing, or whatever else you've done. I personally haven't finished the game yet because I keep starting over to try everything. Also, what do you think is the most fun class to play through as normally (with NPC's)?
Lars the GrimReaper, all powerful hacked sorcerer of the Shadow Mages.
Kick it!
Kick it!
It is a difficult question.
1. Your own party:
a) advantages
- more capable characters (without weaknesses inborn to NPCs)
- better fit to your play style (that's you who is selecting character classes, weapon proficiences, etc.)
b) disadvantages
- you lose most of NPC-specific stuff (personal quests, NPC-specific hints, etc.)
- some spells become deadly for you because you cannot kick any of your character out and get him back later. Some spells are equivalent to kicking out: Imprisonment and Petrification, for example.
2. A standard party:
a) advantages:
- NPC-specific stuff
- special abilities of some characters (Minsc, Mazzy, Edwin, etc.)
- you can play tricks like kicking Jaheira out with the Drow equipment in the Underdark and getting her back later (thus preserving the Drow equipment).
b) disadvantages:
- NPCs are usually weaker than your own characters.
- no inborn spells (heal, Draw upon Holy Might, etc.)
- possible conflicts in your party
- you are forced to subordinate your play style to the NPCs available.

What you write you are doing is a good way to check strengths and weaknesses of characters and party compositions,in the initial stages at least.A quite interesting team is:
Totemic Druid
Minsc
Jaheira
Viconia
Jan
Aerie
The interactions are quite funny, you need to develop good strategies,(including formations)and keeps your interest tuned.

The most fun I've had is playing with 3 friends on a mini-LAN while passign around a half-gallon of Jim Beam.Originally posted by GrimReaper:

I'm also enjoying the following party quite a bit (standard single-player)
Avenger (Druid)
Jaheira
Cernd
Minsc
Valygar
Jan

First time through:
Me (Kensai/Mage)
Minsc
Edwin
Aerie
Jaheira
Imoen
Was fun... but games are always fun the first time.
Second Time:
Me (Assassin)
Keldorn
Anomen
Imoen
Edwin
Jaheira
A lot more fun than the first time! Assassins are really awesome!
I'm now on my third run through the game and am soloing an Elven Multiclass Fighter/Thief/Mage.
Have just finished all the stronghold quests, and just picked up Imoen from Spellhold... running through the maze now
MOST FUN I'VE HAD YET!!!
And since I am soloing, I'm going to send Imoen on her way once I'm out of Spellhold.

Cartoon Law III
Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

Mmmm, ages ago, I think I went through the first time with this party:
Cavalier
Aerie
Minsc
Jan
Jahiera
Valygar
Afterwards, the most fun I've ever had with the game was summoning a dragon into a crowded map like the Promenade. Nothing beats pure mayhem.

You know what's fun?
Soloing the whole game, with a Mage/Swashbuckler or Fighter.
Equiped with:
The netrualizer: New abilities: to hit +6 Dispel magic, stun, slow, disease, 95% chance a level 18 chain lightning will strike.(without letting your character casting it and take time) Ac class bonus: 4, Decrease spell casting speed by: 2
while on the other hand: The BlackRazor: to hit +5 New abilities: Detect Traps at 255, Protection from poison, negative plane, and evil, 50% chance enemie will be slayed(save at bonus of 1), 95% chance a level 18 cone of cold will appear.(same as chain lightning above) immunity to charm, confuse, and dominate effects(cause when you solo once you get charmed you're dead). and fixed damage of acid and electricity at 5D5 (save through -2 to half the damage)
besides those weapons, i just got better and better other equipments throughout the game.
also i set the difficulty to insane(mons 200% dam)
it's so dam cool cause with insane difficulty and soloing all the time. it's hard like hell, but i've got two weapons to protect me. it's like heaven.
You guys should try it, it's sweet. especially with that cone of cold swept through the seas of my enemies
