I like the idea...

But I would make some sort of a limitation. Bon Jovi may be the guy's name, but it's more of a band name. Just like Van Halen.

So we have David Bowie. I can't really think about anyone else to nominate since I'd probably end up voting for Bowie. :)

And did you know that in Texas Bowie is pronounced Boowie (as in moo)? We're all shades of screwed up here. I think it's all the cows.

I'm going with Bob Dylan if that's cool... :)
"Be thankful you're healthy."
"Be bitter you're not going to stay that way."
"Be glad you're even alive."
"Be furious you're going to die."
"Things could be much worse."
"They could be one hell of a lot better."

I nominate Bon Jovi. :p

EDIT: Dar, what I was trying to get at was solo artists or bands that have one main figure and other less important members.

But not a pop or R&B or rap artist, I'd die before letting that through.

Kitten, we gonna give my points pool idea a go?

Why? People listen to different music and only allowing certain types of music is BOGUS.

I'll admit that French and Indian pop music is actually quite good, but quite simply, the styles of music that I stated are crap.

I can't really defend this without sounding intolerant, which I'll admit to being on this subject, but I think it's really OS and Darzog's choice. :p

Well, I don't think that I have any more control of this than any other person but my $0.02 would be that any form of music can be nominated. If they aren't supported they will get voted out quickly.

And so far the nominations are:
David Boowie
Bob Dylan (this would have been my nomination if not for DB)
Steve Vai

Potential:
Bon Jovi
Smashing Pumpkins

Unless anyone objects to Bon Jovi or Smashing Pumpkins (since they aren't as clear-cut figurehead bands as the rest) no reason not to let them in. Wait for 1 more band to make 6 like last time?

What points pool idea? Since we almost have enough bands let's get it sorted out before we start.

I had this idea that at the start, that instead of assaulting each other straight away, people take away from a points pool which would act like a band except you wouldn't be able to add points to it.

That way supported bands will build up points quite quickly, and bands are less likely to be randomly slated as there would probably be a focus on drawing away from immediately popular bands. :)

I nominate Nick Cave.

And to avoid a dragged out fight like last time I suggest that the first to collect two thirds of the points in the pool wins. And that once the pool is empty you can substract from other bands.

Huh?

Do you mean two thirds of the pool as in the total amount of points altogether?

Like 80 points out of a 120 total?

Also, we've got a total of six now with potential and accepted bands, so if we all agree to the potential ones then we can get down to working out which rules we're using and then start. :)

So to summarize, and taking both suggestions from Nano and LeBat...

Bands:
15 David Bowie
15 Nick Cave
15 Bob Dylan
15 Bon Jovi
15 Smashing Pumpkins
15 Steve Vai
60 [General Pool]

Rules:
 1. All bands start with the same # of points (this set started with 6 bands each having 15 points plus a general pool of 60 points).
 2. When a band gets to 0 points it is eliminated.
 3. When a band gets to 2/3 of the total sum of points it is declared the winner (100 points for this game).
 4. When you vote, you apply a total of +4 points and -4 points.
 5. You can mix your points to as many or as few bands as you wish (all +4 to a single band, +2 to two bands, and similar for the -4).
 6. A general pool starts with a set # of points... when the Battle begins, points can only be removed from the general pool until the pool is empty. Once the general pool is empty, points are to be removed from other bands.
 7. You may only vote once per day (based on your local timezone).
 8. After your vote the sum of all points for all bands should be (for this game) 150 points.
This is in no way definite. I just thought I would summarize everything with my spin as a starting point. If anything should be changed, just make a suggestion. Maybe give ourselves 2 days to chat and finalize everything and give people notice that we're starting again?

OK, I guess we can call 4 a quorum. So let's start the Battle on July 19th, whenever that hits your area of the world?
