You sure you have the correct Sunday school story for those names?
My character is usually a colorful name that wouldn;t make it past the site filter system. I figure if I'm gonna play evil, people would likely adress me unfavorably.
A lot of this stuff isn't terribly well-documented. Like Longinus. The centurion that stabbed Christ in the side with a spear. Everybody and their pet grinch knows about the destiny spear, but was he really named Longinus? The Vatican at Rome doesn't release those texts. The name does, however, show up with surprising frequency in that context in various writings that did get out and show up in various other sources, like a supposed transliteration of the New Testament from the Ancient Greek circa 400 AD.
So am I sure? No. Am I fairly sure? Yes - maybe 80-85%, and if I get that sure about something, it usually turns out to be right.
Sometimes, I pick other names that are made up of whole cloth, like my username here, which is not exactly made up, bit is a triple-entendre that came from various other sources. Or I'll just grab one out of the air, like Selena, or one from legend, like Shiggorath, or Nebo, or old texts, like Kur, or Marduk. Sometimes I just pick something fun, like Snoogins, or Fluffy. SwackHammer was kind of fun. After all, I don't have to put it on my license or anything. I might call myself BoneHead if that's what I felt like at the time.

I currently have 2 characters on the go:
A level 40 Breton, (custom class GirlPower - a sort of Warrior-Mage) called Raven Raptor. Raven on account of her blue/black hair. Raptor speaks for itself.
And a level 2 Wood Elf called Aqua Shadow (on account of her hair colour and class). Her custom Class is SneakyBolt.
So much for me not using more than one name!

Ooh! Finns really do have names like that! Oh, now that's really cool. I have a novel around here someplace that talks about an ancient Finnish hero with a really cool name (I think it starts with a K), but I always thought it was just made up. Not many Finns around here. I think you just told me where to find my next character's name. Taa-Daaa!! Now, if I can find that blasted book...
No, but there were both an R&B hit back in the 1960s by that name, and a fairly recent funk piece, as well. Myself, I choose whatever name comes to mind at the moment, because names are easy. I some more profession-oriented RPGs I go for wordplay: my priest will be named St. Vitus (you know, St. Vitus' Dance, the disease of the nervous system--didn't your folks make you attend medical school? ), and Filche, the thief.
Just so you know, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are from the book of Daniel in the Old Testament of the Bible. The wise men (and it wasn't necessarily three of them) are in the New Testament.
Anyway, just thought you'd want to be informed.

Being as boring as I am, I have used the Japanese name Otomo for about twelve years. You know, a sword, a Japanese name, and a dream of being a samurai.
Recently, I've started using names from Orson Scott Card's "Ender" series. So now my Breton is named -- Bean Delphiki. I know it sounds lame, but if you know the story, Bean was physically the smallest, but an intellectual giant who's body ever so slowly caught up with his giant mind. I figured it fit for a character that started off really slow, but now waders the continent like a god.
Oh, and since I can't resist putting in my two cents-- Shadrach, et. al. were the three men from the Old Testament who were thrown in the fire by Nebuchadnezzar but walked out the next day unscathed. The three wise men were Melchior, Belthazar, and Gaspar. (Of course, my spelling may be off)

My firts and only character is a nord lvl 25 knight. He's a destroyer, you can´t fight him and survive 100 str and end... 100 resistence to paralisis decease poison and cold (or is it called frost) all thanks to a couple of ass-kikkers rings, a prefect armor and my race... What else can I say... I'm in heaven

Okay, I realize that the point of this thread isn't to discuss the three wise men. But I can't resist. You are basically correct about the Shadrach guys (except that they didn't walk out the next day, it was the same day. Daniel walked out of the lions' den the next day. However, the wise men issue is what gets me. The only reason that people assume there were 3 of them is that there were three gifts listed. But the Bible never says how many wise men there were. Also, there is no real listing of what their names were. The Melchior, Belthazar, and Gaspar (nice spelling, by the way), are just tradition. But no real basis in fact. Sorry to probably overdo it on this. It's just an important thing to me to correctly understand what the Bible says, as well as to not add anything to it that it doesn't say.
And in order to actually get back to the original point of this thread, I've always liked the name El Dorath for any type of elf.

I have no problems with a discussion of any religion's holy documents, but please start a thread on it in SYM (Speak Your Mind), our forum for non-game related materials.
Otherwise, carry on.
Otherwise, carry on.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Sorry 'bout that. Point well taken.
My buddy asked to get his two cents in on the name question -- his character's name is always Disastro. In his opinion, the name fits if he becomes one of the toughest bullies on the block, or gets his hat handed to him in the first five minutes. (I suggested he use Missle Magnet in that case, but nobody ever really listens to my suggestions.)

This is my first post, I joined just to share my characters names.
First one: bosmer thief named Kabelsatan (which should be fun for norwegians, playing with the name of an annoying figure entertaining kids with plays, songs and movies: Kaptein Sabeltann).
Second: dunmer witchhunter Dirk Diggler, nuff said.
I also have to mention a name i frequently use on characters, tried to use it as m name on the forum, but the filter stopped it: Slick Di**
Thats it for now. Thanks and have a nice day.

Nice thread
Right now I have two characters.
Erik Orfinnsen - Nord - Barbarian, focusing mostly on strenght and melee but also somewhat in restoration. Some kind of Barbarian high priest
Elvino Granli - Wood Elf - Ranger, focusing (of course) mostly on marksmanship and stealth but also somewhat in mystics and alchemy. It would be better if I had chosen Druid as class name indeed.
The next one will be a pure mage with focus on conjuration, destruction and alteration.
I may this time go for Imperial, Dark Elf or Agronian.

Why am I fighting to live, if I'm just living to fight? Why am I trying to see, when there aint nothing in sight? Why am I trying to give, when no one gives me a try? Why am I dying to live, if I'm just living to die?
