Problem with storage space

Post by Old Gregg »

Is there a limit on how much stuff you can store in a chest, set of drawers etc... I have been using two storage spaces mainly, and Im pretty certain that some of the stuff that I have put in them is not available to me now. Did i reach a limit, or is there are bug that is eating through my inventory! This is a fairly big problem as my full set of enchanted Daedric armour was one of the things to have vanished...

I put a lot of stuff in a box in my house and found them in the basement later???
i don't know how they got their so you should check other spaces around it.

There is only one safe storage space. Own a home. Anywhere else, things will go missing sooner or later.

These are two chests in two different homes. I started to notice that some of the stuff I was putting is was going missing a little while ago, but now it is some serious stuff, and not just herbs!

Homes you've paid for, and own? Because if that's the case, items placed in chests or on objects shouldn't vanish.

Were you given keys to lock the doors?

Yeah, these are my (owned outright) homes in the Waterfront District and the place that begins with 'L' that I cant spell at the moment and is off to the south! Im pretty bummed as I was saving a full set of enchanted Daedric armour for once I leveled my light armour up to 100 and moved over to heavy armour (which I have just done), and now it is no more...

Im now pretty sceptical about storing valuable stuff anywhere.

I can't say I've purchased a house, yet, but as I asked before, were you given keys to lock it?

Understand clearly. For the 'home' to be safe, it has to be someplace you have actually purchased with money. Places you simply acquired because nobody else has them don't count.

Based on what Old Gregg has said, he HAS purchased the properties available on the Waterfront and at Leyawiin. So his containers SHOULD be safe.

However, I wonder if there IS a limit to how much a container can... er... contain.
If there IS a limit - and I have a vague recollection of having read somewhere that there IS - then shoving in more items would either call up a 'container full' message, result in a refusal to accept more (without a message), or the simple removal of something already in there, in order to accomodate the new stuff.
Mr Arrow's advice to check out other places in the house is good, imo. Not that you'll have many places to check in Waterfront shack... one chest, two chests of drawers and one kitchen cupboard.

EDIT: I've just remembered something...

Early in the game I used to store stuff in a chest in the Market district until I could sell 'em, and sometimes I noticed stuff had 'gone missing'. BUT: when I removed some of the other stuff, item by item, not all at once, THE MISSING STUFF REAPPEARED. It might be worth while to remove items from your containers one at a time to see if the missing stuff comes back. It doesn't ALWAYS work, but it's worth giving it a go.

Thanks for the advice, I will try to spread the contents over a number of chests, draws (etc) in different owned homes (for which I paid cash and have the keys), and see if the missing stuff comes back.

Storage Glitch - Its not just you!

You're not alone. I've noticed the same glitch from time to time. I would make some enchanted armor and place the item in a chest in my IC house. Since I was trying to make a complete set of enchanted glass armor I went back into the chest immediately to see what pieces I still needed only to find that the armor I had just placed in the chest was no longer there. I'd reload from the autosave and try again. This time it was okay. Don't know what causes this problem but it appears to be random. I was naming my newly enchanted armor after my character's name (i.e. Olivia's Cuirass, Olivia's Guantlets, etc) so that they would all appear in the chest in sequence. The first custom named piece would store okay, but the second piece with the similar custom name would disappear. I suspect that beginning each custom piece with the same name may be the problem but I haven't thoroughly tested my hunch. I do know that the problem seemed to go away when I used a different naming system. Anyway I suggest always checking a chest immediately after placing an important item into it. Make sure you have autosave on so that you can restore from the point where you entered your house in case you need to reload.
