Are five stars in proficiency worth ?

Post by belgarath »

I mean, isn't it better to put 2-3 in two weapon rather than 5 in one ?

The bonuses are not that interesting after 3 (those written in the doc).

What do you think ?

1. When you play without patches like level 50 rules then the second plus gives you a considerable advantage but next pluses are waste of valuable proficiency points.
2. At least some level 50 rules try to rectify it. For example the level 50 rules from teambg.com give you an additional attack at 5+ like in BG1.

If you are playing IWD then the extra profs. are worth it, but in BGII no.

But then again if you only want to use 1 weapon the little bonus may be worth it. FOr example my Kensai Mage uses Katanas almost exclusively. He only uses a longsword in 1 hand when fighting dragons (dragonslayer) or vampires/liches (Daystar). So I put most of mine in katanas and dual wield and only 1 in longswords.

... and you lose 1/2 attack per round. It is not good, Hex92.

@Belgarath: Level 50 rules are a set of .2DA files that you unzip into your 'override' directory. They change the game rules a bit:
a) they remove the XP cap.
b) they extend the progress tables (saving throws, spell capacity, etc) up to level 50.
c) they can do other things as well (it depends on the source - I know the teambg.com rules).
You can get them at www.teambg.com, for example.

... eee ... .2DA files are plain text files...
