What is the BADDEST monster in the game? (poss. spoiler)
I am level 15 and just ran into my first Daedroths and Spider Daedra. The Daedroths I was able to kill, but the spider Daedra toasted me twice, so I jumped over her and ran to the top of the tower and grabbed the Sigil Stone to get out of there. So what is the worst thing you can expect to find in the game, in terms of strength and difficulty to kill?
Any doctrine that will not bear investigation is an unworthy tenant of the mind of an honest man.
I think it completely all depends on how you level - if your points for your minor skills are high while you're still at a low level - because then you get more points per level up. For instance, when I did my first oblivion gate, I was level 3 or something, and I ran into a roomful of scamps which, no matter HOW hard I tried, they'd toast me EVERY SINGLE TIME no matter what I tried. SCAMPS, for crying out loud! So because the enemies are levelled, it all depends on how strong you are for your level that makes the difference of whether the crummiest daedra is impossible or not.
Sadly enough, I have to say those scamps were the hardest ever, because I learned my lesson soon after that, and now whenever I start over, I always create my classes accordingly, and now I really don't have much problem with anything...

you know what they say about all work and no play...
Ya know what, Forget the guide book, the toughest monster is the almighty dread zoombie!
I'm with you. Not necessarily on choice, but on opinion. The guide books likely level the monsters on pure stats. "Lich has more hit points and health points ergo it's toughest". It's never about that. What's toughest depends a lot on how your character is built, what kinds of armor, weapons and spells you have handy, and what you know. The lichs at my level are good for two, maybe three arrows ranged sneak, depending on whether my bow is enchanted or not, and with what. Spider daedra only take one.
I remember one boss character in a cave, though, who was brutal. I was putting arrows in him as fast as I could draw and he still nearly killed me. I think at the end of the day he was riddled with about 8 arrows in various parts of his anatomy. About five of those through his chest. The jerk was a regular Boromir (the Ralph Bakshi one).

I'd say it also comes down to your character build, not just in terms of how powerful your levelling scheme has made you, but also how the build will make you fight. On top of that comes race and equipment, most especially resistances.
Personally a group of 3 Spider Daedra is one of the worst fights I've had so far. While their damage output is not that great, I find myself almost unable to close with them since I must play hide and go seek with their little paralyzing friends. Other than pure spider daedra groups, any spider daedra/heavy hitter combination is deadly, especially if the other critters are also immune to paralysis. Add in cramped space and I start going through potions like an addict with plenty of cash
But I must say, I still don't get the dread zombie problem. They move so slow that you can kill them off with an ordinary kitchen knife without getting hit once yourself. No magic, no enchants, no skill. Just the ability to grip the knife and move your feet.

Judging by the posts...
If you follow the number of posts you'd have to say that maybe the Will-O-Wisp is one of the top contenders. Trolls are nasty characters to encounter if you're in a tight place and tend to marksman skills. Spider Deadra are very worthy adversaries.
Im lvl 36 now, and nothing I have faced since about lvl 30 has been a real problem. Ive been looking for a good fight for a while, but cant find any creature that could even come close to killing me. In this respect the game is now getting a bit boring...
Move the difficulty slider on the options menu all the way to the right. If it's already there, try basing your armor and weapon selections on fashion, not utility. Close an Oblivion gate with your bare hands, decked out in your finest eveningwear. Somebody else suggested starting over; that's always fun too, especially when you try running a character that goes against the grain of your usual style of play. Always play thief/assassin types? See what you can do with a battlemage.

Can the answer to this question be "No"?
i would also agree with dread zombie or (((even though they can't be killed))) those flame turret towers (or the mines). I fear those things more than an army of liches and dread zombies. i was walking across a calm and firey (spelling?) road when i see about four discs fly through the air and i think ohh how pretty BOOM!!!
i catch fire and turn into a smoldering pile of ash.
on a similar note i am walking down a simillar calm and firey road (no relation to the first one) and i see a spinning top on a tower i think ohh pretty and BAM BOOM CRACK!!! three turrets unload on me and i catch fire and turn into a smoldering pile of ash.
that's my 2 cents...

Why am I fighting to live, if I'm just living to fight? Why am I trying to see, when there aint nothing in sight? Why am I trying to give, when no one gives me a try? Why am I dying to live, if I'm just living to die?

Spoilersssss!!!!!!
Ogres in groups are the worst thing you will have to deal with. In the fighters guild quest where you must kill 4 ogres at once, it took my dark elf warrior 2 bottles of skooma and multiple healing potions to take them down. (My orc did it with few pots thanks to the handy berserk skill.) Also will-o-wisps. Those will kill you if you cant deal out damage fast enough. (I try to avoid them with invisibility or speed )

Sorta spoilers in the second paragraph
You know, mr. Arrow, if you shoot the mines with one of your mr. arrows, or just hit em' with a weapon, they don't explode.....
For me, I think that the worst enemy is two or more gloom wraiths, not because they're tough in combat (because they really aren't), but because they have some ridiculous frost spell that does about 120 damage (and they use it every 10 seconds). Even my level 42 Assassin/fighter character has a tough time with these guys. As for actual combat, I think the worst things to fight are either ogres, goblin warlords, those painted trolls from the "A brush with death" quest, or to a lesser extent, dread zombies. None of them are much fun to get into a brawl with, namely because they practically NEVER die. I mean, one time I was fighting with an ogre for about 20 minutes because apparently an ebony claymore isn't quite sharp enough to cut open an ogre's big beer gut within the first 80 or so hits.

i know...
if you noticed the first time i went into oblivion i walked across a field of them. Also if you are too close and shoot them they will explode in your direction. (talking about the mines that shoot up and do explode if you shoot them).
I also agree with alien though. ogres and gloom wraiths are pretty tough for an assassin build. i have trouble with anything that lives long.

I think I have now answered my own question!
The Undead King of Miscarand is the WORST enemy I have faced yet. He and his two zombie guardians took a whole HEAP of killing! I used all the charges on my Staff of Lightning, most of the charges on my Staff of Sickness, and several swings of my Shortsword of Flames to kill all three of them. What a fight it was!

I agree with all that. I tend to go for warrior/mage or stealth/mage types, and it's really weird playing pure warrior.Belthan wrote:Move the difficulty slider on the options menu all the way to the right. But to answer the question - "Which is the worst?" - I think, though it depends a LOT on class and level - that Will-o-Wisps are the biggest pain in the neck. They have NO weaknesses, they drain your magica and health, damage your intelligence and willpower, AND they are immune to normal weapons; so you need enchanted or silver weapons. You need to be fast as well, and to have a lot of healing potions if you find a place with a lot of 'em around.
