How do you speed up the Quick Save?

Post by MikeDykeLike »

I have Windows XP, 512 DDR Ram and 2.4 Ghz and quicksaving is still very disruptive, but I don't understand why. The saves are only 900kb. Is this normal and is there any way to lessen this problem?

I have defragmented my hard drive, use Ad-Aware and similar programs frequently, run almost no background applications and use a 900 MB cache.

It depends upon the speed of your hard drive and the size of the cache that you have set.
Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocre minds. The latter cannot understand it when a person does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses their intelligence.

I believe the size of your install (minimal, regular or full) matters. Or is this just loading time?

How many saved games are there in your saved game folder? If you have a lot (like over a hundred), that can significantly affect the time it takes to save and load games (since the game has to juggle the entire list of saved games).

The only other thing I can suggest is to delete all of the files in your TEMP folder. It will take a little time to reload the current map, but once it is saved to the cache, things should speed up a little bit the next time you load the game.

I did have a lot of save files leftover from my previous playthrough. Deleting them seems to have helped a little. Thanks.
